I'm not new but I don't follow lolcows. 4th place once isn't exactly something to brag about.

Generally speaking, getting top 8 at Evo is kind of a big deal in the realm of fighting games. As a couple of other people already mentioned, it was a janky port of the game, which makes it considerably less impressive. Also, quite a few high level players "boycotted" playing the game that year at Evo, which takes it down a few more notches.
That said, the players that were "boycotting" were kind of little bitches for not just entering and playing it out. I recall they had a little tournament among themselves on the proper version of the game after the official tourney to determine who the "real" Evo winner was, which Phil actually took part in, but he didn't do well.
TBH that whole thing was fucking cringe, and if I was in Phil's position, I probably would have told those faggots to fuck off and have fun with their pretend tournament.

On Phil being good or bad at fighting game never forget this gem of the Streetfigher 6 demo where he fought against ChrisG. He got roflstomped 13-0 (I think he never even got one round in) and ChrisG at one point says "Has this guy really played Streetfighter for over 10 years?"

Which is ironic because Streetfighter 4 was what actually helped propel DSPGaming onto Youtube. but even then there were people who made fun of him with montages (yes BEFORE EvilAJ destroyed his career). Here is one of them:

here's my favorite from 2015 when he played professional MK and Injustice player Counterhitter who a legit ranked winner of several tournaments and all he gets raped and the only reason he had any offense is surprise surprise he plays the faggy broken super armor characters with no interrupt cause he can't react and you see how he goes into that little bitch "oh he plays all day in his parents basement" turns out the guy at the time and still does 1.own his own house and vehicles 2. have a real family with kids.

@SSj_Ness (Yiffed) If you want to see some more DSP fighting game stuff I recommend this video. It's Phil getting beaten by a guy who plays Sean in 3rd Strike many times over the course of a couple years and he gets progressively more salty about it.

Not quite, see this version of the game as someone mentioned was fucked up in it's timing cause of shit optimization on sony hardware meaning charge characters were broken AND there were versions of characters you could play in super turbo that weren't originally available if I remember he was playing either Bison or Vega using their CPU versions as boss characters from an earlier iteration of the game, he's always been a charge using cookie cutter bitch from the get go.

I see, so it's a particularly bad port, that's interesting. There's been so many good ports, guess they had to fuck one of them up eventually.

Mario Kart actually can be competitive, but the level of skill a player needs to negate the RNG items is kinda insane. Like there's way to dodge the blue koopa shells, the game's ultimate "fuck you for winning" item that whoever's in last place will get to compensate for them being crap. However, it involves basically frame perfect boosting to actually pull off that only someone who's played the game a ton could do.

I know Mario Kart DS was at EVO once, so I knew that one at least was an exception, it feels surprisingly skillful. I didn't know World was at all competitive though, I've heard it's one of the most luck based ones (I only played it once so I can't really say).

Per the Discord screens we've seen; he's been in Wings, Boogies, and Becky Boops DMs. They're all Keem adjacent, and being the sheisty business garden gnome he is, it wouldn't surprise me if Keem did it. Keem admitted that Phil has a large contingent of haters, and haters are guaranteed watchers, so may as well monetize them; this was on the 5 hour Sidescroller Hell Stream. Phil pretended to take the high ground because he's a moral person or something; but since then, he's been DMing the LolCowLive talent.

I don't think Phil is actually motivated enough to do it, but I'm hoping he files some sort of lawsuit pro se against Doody or something. If a retard like Russel Greer can enter into a five year long suit against Null/Kiwifarms, why can't Phil do something similar?

I imagine he'll spend half of it going "now, what do I mean by that?" and pigsplaining to the court how restreaming him is like a someone making sandwiches from the garbage of his sandwich shop.
