iGPUs have had shader models for well over 15 years at this point. Portal 2 ran on iGPUs at release it was a big thing that Gabe was passionate about at the time. He must really be living in like 2006 or something.But you see, ACK-shually it's bad on purpose. He did it because iGPUs can't run shaders apparently (???). How did he come to that conclusion, I've no idea but here we are:

Edit: I've not had time to really pore over his code, but can anyone confirm can his lighting code even handle objects in front of others? Like if the dog sprite was behind his character would it still be illuminated? Or is his claim of "physically based lighting" (which he's probably referring to PBR which this is not) completely made up?
