I decided the other day that I'd like to play Mother 3 again, and decided to put it on my phone. Checked the Play Store and holy shit... you either pay a fucking SUBSCRIPTION for an emulator or get bombarded with ads everytime you want to load a game, while playing, and are limited to only 1 save on some of them for the free users.

That just really bothered me because I've been in the emulation scene since the late 90s. It's alway been a community thing. It's always been free. If you want to donate to someone... cool, but you didn't ever have to pay to play.

It took me all of 3 minutes to do some research and figure out I could use RetroArch and load Visual Boy Advance through that. If you're already pirating old software, why the hell would you willingly pay for a fucking emulator?

I don't know why this bothers me so much, but it does. When I was younger I figured the people of the future (today) would all be tech wizards, but if it isn't an app then most motherfuckers are just completely lost.

Rant complete. Sorry.

because retards cant or wont want to figure shit out

nope, since the smartphone dopamine era, kids cant figure out how to use a computer any longer.

There is something about having knowledge on something, that you know well, and seeing people fail at comprehending or learning about it that it triggers such emotions.

It's a fairly common phenomenon.

I remember playing mother 3 on my nexus s like a decade ago, no ads no bullshit, just something from the play store and a rom. better times. haven't messed with emulators in a bit but it's not surprising people are trying to charge for them now. the monetization and enshittification of everything i love haunts me every night.

It's honestly concerning how much people are willing to be paypigs for things that can EASILY be done yourself with little effort. The trend of torrents somehow being arcane knowledge to younger gens is a big one for me. There are parallels between my aged mother who screams at the computer all day because she can't learn what right clicking is despite being told and shown a billion times and gen alpha which there should NOT be. My mom is old and retarded and incapable of learning, but fucking teenagers and young adults should be able to figure this out. We need a minimum of tech literacy in this field among the population so we can fuck over these evil companies and hurt their bottom lines.

ChatGPT, generate me a prompt I can tell GROK to have it generate a list of the best subscription plans under $50 a month for playing pokemon leafgreen on my Iphone at 1.5x speed, with all items and pokemon unlocked from the start. I saw a 13 hour video essay about the liminal home design in this game and need to experience it being played by an AI in my Vision Pro while I read X at the same time. Thank you ChatGPT, I love you.

I remember downloading emulators from Google Play to play Game Boy and GBA games when I wanted to play something during the breaks in primary school. I knew some people would try to sell "pro" versions of these, but subscriptions are a new low.

Also, Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (GB) and the Super Mario Advance (GBA) series are genuinely underrated, but playing these games on your phone like I did as a small child is not a fun experience; just emulate them on your PC.

On the other hand, turn-based RPGs play really nicely on phones.

It's a shame what mobile gaming has become compared to other platforms. Freemiums, adwares, and mass-produced slop everywhere. Almost every good game on this platform is either over a decade old or ported from another platform. Those iPad kids deserve better to be honest.

They made this shit a subscription? Back then they used to make it just a one-time purchase for a "pro" version. What the fuck?

Dumb zoomers who can't computer think this is normal because just about everything on mobile is designed to nickel and dime you all the way. They don't know anything else.
