It's designed for kids, so the whole family can play, where little Timmy or geriatric Bertha can still win every now and then. Which is why it's so funny to see him struggle with the game.

It's just really obvious and, could just be me, would prefer something with all the safeties off. I know some of the items are locked behind where you are in the rankings; so those near the front will never get a star or bullet bill or lightning, but they seem to be very consistent as opposed to what I remember back on the 64. I could be wrong, but it also looks like there's rubber banding, so even if the people behind you don't have shit to off you, it seems like skill can't even carry you. Not that I have it, but, would prefer a different rule set.

There really is something comical about having this guy bobbing up and down in front of him whilst he looks like a corpse.
Funnier still is that RIP Linda is actually good, even when he's lossing he's at least in front of Phil, so his name or caracthers are always on display

There are many racing games out there that are exactly what you want. Let Mario Kart be Mario Kart.

I think it's more to do with the increased player count. More players means more people getting the nasty stuff like blue shells, lightning bolts, and triple red shells. I don't have a Switch 2 yet either but I played the new one at my nephew's house and I was pretty disappointed because there used to be an option in Mario Kart 8 and 8 Deluxe on the Switch where you could choose custom items and pick and choose what you wanted, plus options like shells only, mushrooms only, and bananas only (which turns into pure chaos after the first lap as the racing line is littered with peels). It was a ton of fun and now it's not even an option.

So awkward with the "Give me $10 to choose a new character." It's game Phil, it's okay to have favorites and play with your favorites. I know he's crying for cash, but my logical side says just pick who you want, and Phil needs to monetize his choice.

Phil has legitimate holes in his senses. He got a mushroom that made him big, and he ran over the guy who was in first. His character then returned to normal size and got hit with a lightning, and then Bowser ran over Phil. What does Phil say; "How did Bowser run over me, he wasn't big." Completely missing the lightning that happened in between.
