Umamusume: Pretty Derby - Horse fuckers and gacha addicts get sent to the glue factory

btw the girls have an ear piece on their right ear if theyre based on a male horse and on the left ear if based on the female horse :)

Another thing is the male horses run in shorts for their track uniform while the females run in bloomers. I was waiting to see if this thread was eventually going to pop up and the kiwis didn't disappoint.

I remember seeing pictures of Cygames setting up a booth at the Kentucky Derby. For those who don't know, the Kentucky Derby is very much a high-brow old money event. The type of people who show up at them are the ones whose ancestors were legit plantation owners and still have huge chunks of land in the family. Cygames have definitely poured money into promoting the western release.

Why does Rice Showers gotta be such a moody bitch?

The actual horse suffered a bad injury in the Takarazuka Kinen in 1995 and had to be put down on the field. He was the race favorite and only lived 6 years. I assume that's why she's wearing the funeral outfit and suffers from constant bad luck.

Rice Shower also had a bit of a reputation as a "villian" for breaking winning sprees of favorites. She mentions it a few times through the game. Notably, he beat favored horse Mihono Bourbon at the Kikuka-shō in 1992 and depriving Meijiro McQueen winning the Tenno Sho three times in row in 1993. One of those times is in Haru Arara's campaign after she upset one of her peers and asks Rice Shower why she would be upset.

Finding out the real history of the actual horse Gold Ship makes me wish I was able to see that agent of chaos live.

I find it funny the game stuck to the bit of Gold Ship being a temperamental yet charming pain in the ass. Apparently just refusing to train is canon.

The sad part is that Rice Shower's reputation on the track as a "winning streak-ending assassin" was starting to improve prior to the fatal injury. Poor guy didn't deserve the hate.

I really like her characterization. She's a good girl, sweet and kind, but because she's not the "favorite" she gets bullied by the fans. They want OTHER horses to win and treat her like shit and call her the "Black Assassin" - that's why her design has a dagger on it, too. As a result her self-esteem goes in the dumpster and she believes herself to be a bad-luck girl who brings misfortune to others... even though in her interactions with others you can see that they like her and think she's nice. It's a heartwarming story when you Train her as your Race Horse because there's lots of scenes where you encourage her and say nice things to her and help her regain her confidence in herself.

It's actually wholesome chungus 100 without being braindead.

I legit wonder if the devs can get the rights to foreign horses like American Pharoah.

I hope so. I know the Japanese server has a couple mecha horse girls, so maybe it's not out of the question. I know it's not a race horse, but it's my favorite horse. She was purchased from Soeul raceway so maybe she gets a pass on a technicality. Make her a tomboy in BDUs and make her talk like R. Lee Ermey (r.i.p. Gunny). I could use a horse with a Strength and Dirt specialty.

Meet Staff Sergeant Reckless of the United States Marine Corps. Reckless is a decorated Korean War veteran who carried recoilless rifles, ammunition, and wounded soldiers across rugged Korean terrain inaccessible to most vehicles. While she was dependable for the entirety of her service, her career highlight was the Battle of Outpost Vegas, where she made a staggering 51 trips on the first day of battle, roughly 750 yards each way carrying recoilless rifle ammunition uphill while coming back down with wounded soldiers. She was struck twice with artillery shrapnel during the battle and received two Purple Hearts for her injuries. By the end of the first day of battle, she had carried 386 recoilless rifle rounds weighing 24lbs each over roughly a 35 mile distance. At the end of the war, she was retired to Camp Pendleton, where she would receive her final promotion and an accompanying 19-gun salute and a 1,700 man parade. She would also not be permitted to carry anything heavier than her blanket on her back. She died in 1968. At the end of her career, she had received: the Dicken Medal, two Purple Hearts, two Navy Presidential Unit Citations, a Navy Unit Commendation, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, four Korean Service Medals, the United Nations Korea Medal, and, posthumously, the Animals in War & Peace Medal of Bravery. She was also the first and only horse to participate in an amphibious operation.

I will once again defer to and shill for TheFatElectrician, who describes her in much more detailed overview. My short write up doesn't do Reckless justice.

Was vaguely aware of this game and the animu for years but I'm surprised it only got a global release just now. Anyway, the races themselves have captured my attention, even if I just skip most of the VN cutscenes, and Winning Ticket has captured my heart.
i’ve been playing for a week and i still cant get to the URA finale the west has fallen
I did the speedmaxxing with Bakushin like others said but I feel like I still won by rng + having a bunch of frontrunning velocity up skills + pace chaser hesitance + Long Shot doing some heavy lifting because all my predictions were grim and she was rock bottom in the favorites in the Ura. Having a certain threshold of wit is important too I think.

Wit controls skill activaction, I read. So if you have no wit your skills don't matter.
I've been told (I think the in-game tips mention this) that it also affects positioning ability, e.g. your racer's ability to avoid being boxed in by making use of lateral movement - as opposed to using Power to push straight through. The game makes use of some sort of "Field of View" for racer AI, based on what I read from some of the skill descriptions. Higher Wit also protects against the "Rushed" status (the one that makes them run above their target speed and waste stamina).

I'm also learning the hard way that Guts is NOT a dump stat.

This game is crazy fun. I'm surprised I like it so much.
I saved 30k for kitasan and proceeded to not get her once (except the pity). So I decided to just reroll the whole account. This game makes it so easy to reroll, you can do it in 2 minutes. I got 2 kita with the 80 pulls they give new accounts after rerolling 5 times. Perfection.

It can also be cruel. I had a run with McQueen where I got the Raffle Grand Prize ticket and got absolutely screwed out of the URA Finals win. The game has a built-in limited retry (3 times per career) as a sort of admission that the RNG is excessive and it's allowed to tell you NO WINNING ALLOWED sometimes, even if you pass the stat checks.

I had already burned my first retry on one of the earlier races - sometimes you fall behind the stat curve when your horse wants to exhibit womanly behavior and be constantly sleep deprived from binging TV at night which now requires me to waste turns at the Infirmary getting rid of her Night Owl status...

Anyway, first try at the Finale race: Special Week decides to Velocity Up in the last 200 meters and wins by a nose. Second try: Oguri Cap gets a bunch of skill activations on the final corner and wins by a neck. I could've taken some work today and made a couple hundred bucks. I chose poorly.

That's just roguelikes. You have to try multiple times to increase the chances of you winning by learning the game and getting better skills from better cards and inheritances. But I will say this one is harsher than other rougelikes. Probably to simulate the many upsets in horse racing or to encourage whaling.

I would like to see how they would characterize Secretariat. Imagine being this legend of a racehorse and people discover you through the anime horse girl racing game.

But Secretariat was just a gentle guy. He had a (literal) big heart and was a goofball off the track. He'd even grab a branch and initiate tug of war.

“This is probably my favorite shot of Secretariat at stud, because it shows off a playful side not many have seen. As I approached his paddock at Claiborne Farm he picked up a large branch and brought it over to the fence, wanting me to try to pull it out of his mouth. There I was playing tug of war with a legend. This went on for several minutes with me unable to pull it out of his mouth. It was like playing fetch with a big dog.”~ Steve Haskin

I'd love to see their take on a legendary horse like Nearco, whose genetics came down to many future champions including Secretariat. Native Dancer as well who was the first race horse made famous on TV (also related to Nearco). These horses have long, impressive lineages and I would like to see that explored further... I imagine an Uma who has retired from racing either due to injury or age would go on to become a Trainer or at least a Trainer's Assistant. This is my theory on what Tazuna's deal is, she's a retired Uma who helps run the Academy; there are some hints that she's an Uma because she can keep up with one in a scene but it could just be a silly joke. It's been stated that Umas are like elves so I assume they have hundred year life spans, so I'd assume the older legendary race horses are present in the world but retired. It would be very interesting to see this referenced in some way anyways.

Everything I know about this show comes from a) The yakuza apparently being mad that foreigners are making porn of the horse girls, which somehow translates into a loss of revenue for them in horse betting, and b) That the real-life horses are getting a lot of donations of food, like apparently Haru Urara is, to the point where it's getting memed on

Does the Yakuza also go after people that draw guro/snuff art of the horse girls, i.e. say if the Brazilian guy that drew the infamous TLOU2 Abby punching Uzaki-chan's head off for holding a Joel sign, were to do the same with a horse girl's head being punched off in the same way?

Game is fun as hell. I got into it because of Northernlion. Horses are awesome and so are management games.
You get around $80-$100 of free currency atm if you start playing, which is nice.

Game is deceptively deep. You do a rougelite "Career" mode where you train stats, race for skill points, receive (somewhat) random skills to take, and hope everything works out. You build a horse and try to create an airtight strategy. You hit a wall hard your first time and realize you aren't meant to win it all at once. Your horse retires.... and can then be used as a legacy horse to buff your next run. Repeat. Use retired horses to fill your racing team and race other players online. Your race team gets stronger the more you play career. Rewards from races are used in career mode and vice versa. Gameplay loop.

I was extremely addicted my first few days, I have now built up a B grade race team and am playing a bit every day. Never played a gatcha game, and I do not feel incentive to spend money. The event going on and the numerous challenges give thousands of "carats" or currency used to get more horses and support cards.

I am not put off by the anime aesthetic. because it is very mild and kiddie. No fanservice to cringe at. A lot of the writing is funny, but I honestly skip through the cut scenes and train, train train.
