A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Up to 16 is mandatory. Further and Higher education is voluntary, but the old vocational training schemes were gutted in the 90s, so there's very few opportunities for 16 year-olds to enter the workforce. Not impossible, but most of the jobs they would have had in the past are taken by migrants these days. Another one of the "they do the jobs we won't do" lies.

Even though there may only be 1.5m 16+17 year olds in the country, it could tip some seats here and there. Politically it's probably equivalent of removing votes from anybody over 75+. Maybe bit less. And the below is some food for thought, it's voting intention in 2025 by age group.

But to run through the numbers, let's assume that this would enfranchise 1.5m, and that exactly one third of them (500k) go and vote at the next election. 500000/650 = 769.2. So 769 extra voters per seat on average, and each seat sees about 50-60,000 votes in a GE. A little over 1%.

So, yes, there could be a handful of seats where Labour cling on (or Jezbollah\the Greens win) on the basis of this gerrymander. But my honest belief is that even in the most lurid scenario you could count those seats on one hand.

The real problem will come if and when Labour enfranchise foreigners. A much bigger group of people who have practically zero common interest in Britain's prosperity or social wellbeing.

The muslim vote holds a significant sway and in those areas where labour were contested the strongest, it wasn't the greens or reform but 'independents' who are majority muslim.

Once the order is given that muslims shall vote for X party, that party will gain power.

You will be stuck with labour until 2029, giving the muslims another 4 years for their demographic majority to reach voting age, then things get interesting.

That is true, but enfranchising every foreigner would create new issues on top of that. For example, London (and other urban centres, but London in particular) would gain a hatful of extra MPs at the next boundary review by default, as every foreign adult living there would now count towards the electorate count, and so London's quota would go up (and conversely, white areas would go down). Two dozen extra MPs for Labour\Greens\Jezbollah at a stroke, baked into the system.

EDIT: In fact, this will already happen to a degree as a result of something announced today alongside the votes for 16yos - if the system is changed as promised so that everyone eligible is automatically registered to vote, then this will mean more seats in areas where the population is more transient.

If I was PM, I would cut the welfare state entirely, end any type of migration from any country (including marriage and family visas) and deport all first-generation migrants regardless of citizenship status. I've got a lad working for me 3 nights a week an 1 day every other weekend helping me out in the workshop, not work shy, enthusiastic, doesnt get under you feet, makes a very decent coffee.

I get help, he get's a bit of extra education an practical work, £600 and if he wants when he finishes his schooling I'd offer to take him on full time as an apprentice.

I think the attitude of a small but significantly sized minority that don't want to work, even if it's just for some extra beer money or stuff they want etc doesn’t matter they want to work, and they do work when they can a bit like how the media would assume all groups of kids are upto no good when most kids are totally harmless an you call tell the difference between the two a fucking mile off if your not retarded.

One big problem is the world of work they are entering isn't great, Depressed Wages, Shit jobs, low potential for development, nothing tangibly productive (this is a big one I'll elaborate on in a sec) and what you can buy is drastically reduced for the most part.

It's one of the things that pisses me off. The average person on here could reasonably claim for PIP for some reason or another yet we persist and try our best and work jobs that crush us because we know it's better to be Nicolas (30 ans) and have at least the smallest bit of hope that things will work out, as opposed to being a dole scum lifer who will never accomplish anything of value and will die of a heart attack in a hoarders paradise aged 49.

I absolutely agree there should be a spacker safety net, but ideally I think it should go further. The idea that every child is equal is nonsense and needs stamped out as it's a complete waste of money and resources. If your kid is a wheelchair mong with a life expectancy of 26 then even taking them to school in the first place is performative cruelty. This fucker will never get a job, will never accomplish anything of value and just wants to play with their hot wheels toy and shit themselves. Saying from birth "Here's X money to quit work and give Harvey Price a reasonable life" would cost the taxpayer so much less than sticking them through school (with specialist wheelchair transports). Like what sort of life can someone who doesn't grasp how peekaboo works really achieve? They're just going to watch Peppa Pig and occasionally leave the house for hospital visits.

If I'm PM, anyone on PIP is ineligible to have a driving license (do you really want to share a road with someone with suicidal urges?) and should be barred from all public service jobs. As part of the social contract, for taxpayers to subsidise retards they have to be aware they are a second class citizen. Ideally some sort of retard city will be built so people on PIP could be bussed in from London or Bradford so they can have a cheap life where they can interact with their retarded peers.

Sounds harsh? Imagine how quickly everyone would realise that they're not as disabled as they say they are. The people who are actually disabled wouldn't see a problem with any of this because they're still being helped more than hindered, it only affects the grifters who see PIP as propping up their income.
