EDIT: Alright, got it working. It's turning my phone into a stove, but it's running. Now what the hell am I supposed to reroll for?

Why did you do this? It's released in English. It's on Steam and the app store. You absolutely did not need to do this. Nobody playing the EN version knows anything about the JP version so you're gonna be on your own reading moonrunes about it. The only thing the JP version has is all the content unlocked at once, so you're even going to miss out on the "progression" element of the game's content being released. Such as, in the EN game Kitasan Black support card just came out and everyone is foaming at the mouth trying to pull her.

Literally the only reason I play gatcha is as an excuse to practice reading moonrunes. Anyway, reloaded for both of the SSRs on the Tamamo Cross banner. No clue if they're any good. Too tedious to reroll more.

EDIT: Apparently both the cards are considered top-tier meta. Good to know.

EDIT2: Tried reloading a few times on the English Steam version too.

Feels like a good enough reroll.

Managed to get the Hot Spring event for Grass Wonder, and I'm very pleased to report that they do not lewd the horse girls. She earned it too, because she got zero help from all her sparks - multiple 2- and 3-star sparks for surface/distance/strategy, so the game obviously gave her dogshit stat boosts. She's a very good horse, and deserves many head pats.

Some shots of the career profile, sparks and stats below - you can see how bad her spark rolls were because the ones that triggered during your playthrough are highlighted in yellow. I think the support cards saved this career.

I really like this game and agree that I wish it wasn’t anime girls and was just actual horses.

It has the same gameplay loop as Success Mode in MLB Power Pros, a yearly Japanese baseball game that only made it to the US in 2007 and 2008. I became pretty obsessed with 2008, I was even playing it again just a few months ago. I just really like the idea of having a career that is several years long where you have to manage your energy and pick what to do each day and get special abilities depending on what you pick to do. There is even the acupuncturist in Umamusume which directly corresponds to an event in Power Pros, Dr. Goodjob.

I’ve been itching to find more games with this kind of gameplay loop, closest I can think of that I have played is maybe Punch Club

Is anyone else not really buying into the Kitasan support banner hype? I know it's incredibly good once it's maxed out, but I'd rather save my rolls and use the Guest Card feature to mooch off someone else. I've got my eyes on a few trainees down the line, and I'd much rather ensure I get them than try following a meta.

I gotta say, being able to use guest skill cards and veteran trainees was a wonderful idea. I have a few wins under my belt now, so I try to not use guest trainees, but hitching a ride off of a whale and using their skills is great.

Some japanese man saw hobby horsing and thought this can be turned into coombait gachaslop somehow.

Blatant rip-off or else they would be centaurs, which would make a lot more sense btw but would put off some of the coomers who aren't quite as far gone as to wanna fuck a horse ass.

If that were the case they could just give them transformations, one as centaurs for racing and one as humanoids for gooning. Deboonked :smug:

I find it funny the game stuck to the bit of Gold Ship being a temperamental yet charming pain in the ass. Apparently just refusing to train is canon.

Yeah, IRL Gold Ship was absolutely bonkers.

Fun fact Kiwis: he was also incredibly virile, taking only about five minutes each session with a mare and able to knock up ones with ease that everyone thought had gone completely infertile. As a result of how quick and potent he was there are over 500 children of his out there. At 2 million yen per breeding session that's over a billion yen as just a stud.

I got lucky in getting the card in my first 10-pull, and I feel no desire to push for more copies. These kinds of games always generate excessive hype for stuff that only matters at the highest levels of PVP, and I do not care about Team Trials. One copy of KB is plenty for me: 30% event point bonus and good skill hints that consistently hit in career runs.

Agree about the borrow features being a great idea. I just wish I had better luck getting new Trainees, because I'm locked out of many good legacy combos by my lack of Oguri/Suzuka/Teio/etc. Maybe the event Scout Ticket rewards will help with that when I finally decide to use them.

ETA: I don't even get mad when I get Gold Ship'd, it's Gold Ship's world and everyone else is just the supporting cast.

It can also be cruel. I had a run with McQueen where I got the Raffle Grand Prize ticket and got absolutely screwed out of the URA Finals win. The game has a built-in limited retry (3 times per career) as a sort of admission that the RNG is excessive and it's allowed to tell you NO WINNING ALLOWED sometimes, even if you pass the stat checks.
I had a Tachyon that was boosted to the max and winning race after race with ease at one point and yet 3 separate times computer said no and she got blocked to the back of the field by an uma running out of stamina. Each retry, including the URA semis, she won. (URA finals didn't need a redo.) The RNG can heavily blow chunks.

I love Taiki Shuttle. She's American, blonde, has massive honkers, wears very little clothing, loves hamburgers, and wants to be a cowgirl (Kentucky is not cowgirl country, but in my headcanon her mom liked Nashville a bit too much). She got a S front runner skill from her inheritance and basically turned into Bakushin dominating every sprint. Bob Baffert is eternal.

I still can't get the Kita SSR support if my life depends on it, though...

I recall getting the loser horse to Rank B and finishing URA finale with her. It’s insanely fun, even with the RNG, if you know what the fuck are you doing.

I almost beat URA finale with her only to get the second place in the finals. RNG can be a real bitch sometimes :(

I was only going to test this game out of curiosity, but its gameplay really hit my nostalgia of Monster Rancher. It's about the only thing I've bothered with much where they remind me of each other. Granted Monster Rancher isn't roguelite or anything unless you count the fact your monster WILL die at some point. Actual life spans and whatnot varying per monster type/mix. (I think maybe the first game you could circumvent it, but pretty sure in follow ups you can't abuse the life extensions.) Also lacks any real story beyond "Finish the big tournaments!" You just keep rolling along until you feel done before or after you finish that. Well, as far as 1 and 2 go. I never really got around to 3 or 4, which I think did implement some level of rpg story stuff.
If you want the storylines then Uma certainly has more insomuch as character specific stuff. Obviously the URA and presumably future tournaments are also fairly bare minimum overall. If you want to basically stat buff monsters and battle with them until they're about to die before fusing them into something for a bit of stat carry over MR is more or less in that vein.

I only know of MLB Power Pros and it looked pretty neat, but as you said since it didn't get any oversea releases I'm S.o.L. Seemed far more interesting than any of the standard "SPORTS GAME CURRENT YEAR+1, Ultimate Season pass season pass edition deluxe" I always see sitting around. Which is pretty much all of them for the last 8 or so years.

Good call on monster rancher, I bought the 1+2 bundle on the App Store awhile ago but never actually played through them

I do still recommend Power Pros 2008 if you have a ps2 or just download an emulator. One thing is it is all single player, and save scumming is allowed, so it is almost preferable to use an emulator to use save states to quickly make an ultra strong guy instead of resetting on console. I didn’t play that way before, but after many runs I started resetting if I got injured at practice or if my gambling tickets failed (you can straight up gamble to raise a stat or learn a skill in that game)

Anyway, I have almost all horses at B+ and am top 20k in team battles (just kidding, I was a few days ago and already dropped to 40k). I just can’t seem to break into an A ranking though. That’s where the whaling for support cards comes in.

It's really fun, the 'one more go' nature it has keeps me coming back. I've only had one successful run (Vodka) and the way she clutched it surging from 5th in the last 200m of the URA Finale to win by a neck was some of the most exciting content in a game in the last 5 years

Can't wait for Umamusume Shergar to be added to have an event where she's kidnapped by the IRA

WTF you didn't? MR4 is objectively the best one. Its story is pretty basic though, your girlfriend can talk to monsters and is a reincarnation of an ancient princess or some shit. Still it's very fun until you hit the last level and then you have to grind your ass off and I've still never actually beaten it because of that. If you emulate it at 2x speed it's a little better.

I also can't seem to get to an A rank no matter what I do, but at least I got Haru to the finals a couple times and to B+. Ironically she's my best horse right now.

I read a comment from a Japanese guy on a video about the Kitasan Black banner and he said that in the Japanese version not getting a maxed out Kitasan Black was like being a second-class citizen in the game for the next 4 years. Apparently it took a very long time for her to get powercrept.
