I’ve been playing we wuz donkey Kong and the game is fun but DK’s design is so shit.

So I tried Bananza too, and like others mentioned, the camera can be bad a lot of the time and it doesn't really feel like a platformer. This feels like an action game with light platforming and a bit of RPG elements tacked on. I already knew I wouldn't like the vibe or character design going into it, and some of the music is meh.
That said, while it's a little mindless and has some jank (controls and especially camera could use tightening up), it's kind of addicting. I think the first area should've been more impressive and fun, it felt somewhat lifeless and generic. I really got into it by the time I got to the second area and messed around there a bit. I took my sweet time so though I made very little progress I played for at least a couple hours.
I'm obviously not far yet but from what I've experienced to this point, I'd rate it 7.5/10. It's a much more subjective game than most, so this score feels meaningless, either it'll click with you or it won't imo.

I'm very pissed right now. My local Target had like 3 Switch 2s on Wednesday but I decided to wait a day for my next paycheck and they were all gone by then. They are literally impossible to find online for non-scalped prices. I was tricked into buying a Switch 1 on Temu that was misleading labeled on my Google search and won't get fully refunded for a few days unless I call the bank and fight with them over it. My local Gamestop is supposed to get more either today or Monday but unless I can get refunded by then I won't be able to afford it, I'm in the poor house and spent the first half if the year between jobs after my last job downsized and a few months ago someone hacked my PayPal and stole my money.

Iwata is hiding out in Argentina with Hitler and Michael Jackson making the ultimate piece of entertainment media.
Forgotten Land is great, but if you’re willing to wait for the upgrade, that’ll bring it from 900p(?) 30 FPS to 4K/60. It’s my most anticipated Switch 2 thing right now, but I might get Bananza once the dust has settled and I have more time to dedicate to it.

I am extremely interested in the new stuff for Forgotten Land. Already beat the game 100% and probably won't do that again, but as I understand it this mostly post-game content. And Kirby games don't really get started (and "fuck you" hard) until the post game.

I swear, Kirby overall is really carrying the Switch 2. The only games I am fully interested in are both his beyond that weird Another Code/Hotel Dusk successor.

Hard to say when the system is still in the first couple months. Mario Kart World is good but not as good as 8 Deluxe, and certainly not worth $80. Fast Fusion is fine, but it has five different graphics settings and all of them look kinda bad and make me wish the game was on PC instead. Bananza is getting positive reception so far, so we’ll see for that one. And I like Welcome Tour, but… come on, that’s not a system seller. It shouldn’t even be paid, but I won’t beat that dead horse any further.
I have high hopes for Kirby though. Forgotten Land was amazing, Air Ride 1 was amazing, and the worst you can say about any Kirby is that it’s simply “good”.

I thought it was fine. The first game got translated over well, it was the second that people had issues with, though the second game was already strange and had a lot of plot issues and storylines left open for potential sequels. Disconnecting the "remake," which was always more of a reimagining, from the originals, it was solid on its own.

His eyes and teeth are different but I'm not a huge fan of his hair effects. He's always had some difficulty in getting good looking hair but I kind of wish they tried for realistic looking gorilla hair. They can finally do it.

I think it's because they're trying to do a weird mishmash of Miyamoto's DK and Rare's DK, and it clashes in the wrong way. If they had fully committed to Miyamoto's design - something like this:

I picked up and started playing Donkey Kong Bananza on Thursday and just beat it this evening.
I honestly enjoyed it, the game definitely takes from Super Mario Odyssey and mixes in the “go ape” aspect that’s a somewhat-noticeable part of the series. And unlike Odyssey I can actually see myself replaying Bananza years later because the terrain destruction/manipulation aspect is better than Odyssey’s Capture aspect.

That's just the status quo of corporate Japan. The entertainment industry in Japan avoided it for a long time because it was considering unimportant and/or low-status so it mostly attracted oddball people who were in it for the love of the game. Now that Japan has realized their entertainment is a valuable export and tool for promulgating soft-power, we're seeing the worst aspects of corporate Japan seep in.
I knew things were probably trending in this direction when the government pushed a ton of game and animu stuff during the 2020 Olympics.

The Rare design is much more iconic and well known than the Miyamoto design - it would be like reverting Mario back to his original Popeye-esque design. I think the Bananza design works, the only problem is that they didn't redesign Diddy Dixie and Cranky along with him so that everything would gel better.

It's really weird how people can't accept that the reason why Japanese media was so groundbreaking was because it was a playground for creative types, and once it became corporate and the people who founded it passed on, it was doomed to the same shortsighted actions, arrogance and politics that destroyed the rest of the Japanese economy.
