As funny as it would be if this were due to Ian's miasma permeating the walls it sounds a lot more like severe smoke issues and cheap "landlord special" paint jobs. From the description of shitty cooking the smoke could very well have come from repeatedly cooking with oil past its smoke point. This is common with people who try to use olive oil the same way you normally use vegetable or canola oil. As much as the former is healthier it also has a lower smoke point and it produces a very acrid smoke. (If you want a decent oil with a higher smoke point use Avocado Oil.) Add to that acrid oil smoke Anisa's weed habit and Ian's miasma then its no wonder the house stinks like that. If they did a landlord special paint job they probably didnt clean the walls adequately first, its also likely to have permeated the ceiling and the carpet.
