Artcow Ken Penders - Former Archie Sonic Comic Writer/Artist

Now, in the comics they spend like a hundred issues trying to de-roboticize Uncle Chuck. They finally do it, only to immediately drop Sonic into the exact same scenario with his dad. Like, “Oh good, we cured Chuck of being a robot. Anyway, here’s this other hedgehog you love who’s also now a robot. Enjoy the trauma loop.” It's literally the same, one has a mustache, the other doesn't
I guess only difference is that Sonics dad remained a robot, while Chuck and Sonics mother were turned back to normal. There was some lazy handwave, how since he was the 1st subject, turning him back will bring back all his damage and he'll KO instantly or something like that.

Sonic's parents were an asspull indeed, but eventually his dad got a bit better. What's bad is how the heroes fixed the robot aspect: They don't.
Suddenly aliens fix everyone! Off screen! Except Sonic's Dad, the poor bastard.
I'm 15 years old again, staring at a panel where Colin Kintobor Jr. voluntarily changes his name to Snively, Station Square is just the Truman Show dome city, who the fuck is Mina Mongoose and why is Rotor dying in a Sonic comic?? I have emotional scarring.

who the fuck is Mina Mongoose
Was made to be another love interest for Sonic, who was equally fast and somewhat strong. Also funny thing, she actually died in one issue when Fang shot her in the back with a revolver, the whole page you see her get plugged and slowly die after saving Sally from being shot. Well guess what, that was later retconned that she was just grazed and because of that issue Fang wasnt allowed to use actual firearms in the comics, instead having to use lazer guns or a popgun.

Also, nope, not the first accidental genocide IIRC. That would be Sonic and friends abandoning the desert resistance fighters to die to hordes of mad robots because they were jerks at Sonic for no reason (Sonic apologized later, funnily enough).
Oh yeah, forgot about that one. I was thinking about the aliens that worshiped Sonic. In that issue, Sonic crash lands on a planet where time is much faster then himself. So, thousands of years on that planet go by until the aliens were able to slow themselves down to get Sonic out of the pod and they tell him they fought religious wars in his name.

To the aliens, Sonic was practically sitting motionless doing nothing for thousands of years. They just thought that was the coolest thing ever to the point worshiping and mass persecuting each other over him for basically doing nothing . If there is a better analogy of the Sonic fandom, I don't know what that would be.

It's the same issue where we got this example of a true master piece of modern art.

Fuck, Archie Sonic was awful. I love it.

These comics sound so weird part of me honestly wants to sit through them. It's just insane to me how much they did with a game character who's entire persona is "gotta go fast".
That's exactly what i was about to post as i read through this thread! Are there any archives out there or something?

there's a lot of comics I want to unironically read first, but Archie Sonic is def in the top of the "lol this shit" pile if I ever get to it

The thing about Fang the Sniper, he has one of the coolest Sonic character designs. He is their version of a Blackwater contractor. He only shows up in a couple games, Triple Trouble, Sonic Drift, and Sonic the Fighters, which no one played unless their parents bought them a Game Gear/Saturn because they hated them.

You look at him and think, okay, this is their Australian guy. But then it turns out he’s not Australian? He’s not even from Downunda, which is the name they gave to the actual Australia-analogue region.

Ye, sadly his coolness factor got downgraded in the Archie comics after this issue with the revolver and him shooting Mina. Apparently there were some complaints from parents or something along those lines, thus the revolver was gone and replace with lazer guns. He was brought back into the IDW comics, but they changed his species to a jerboa, which oddly fits him more than a weasel did, but sadly he hasn't been allowed to appear in the main comics.

Holy shit, what genius at Archie thought it was a good idea to introduce a character like Mona Muskrat or whatever (who, for the record, sucked) and then immediately shove her into some Gwen Stacy tragic nonsense?

And this is where I defer to The tired cat because they have a phD in Archie Sonic lore. But I do remember that the run from issue #101 to like, what, #150?: they had all these new characters showing up, making the Sonic-verse feel a little bit adult (which kind of worked in the Archie TMNT Adventures line) but whoever was writing it just let everything kind of rot on the vine.

Well, technically her character was introduced way back in Issue 77, her getting shot happened waaay further in issue 123 and by this point Sonic went through several love triangles. So, not that immediately.

This was almost a running gag with Archie Sonic: some characters had staying power and remained, others were tossed to the winds, and some were brought back even when nobody really wanted 'em. I'd say most infamous was this one turtle character that everybody hated was brought back 2-3 times before finally getting nuked into dust. Heck, I recall during the sprite comic era, you'd see Sonic sprite comic makers almost make bets if Penders gonna introduce a new character or pull some bullshit with existing ones.

I thought Rob o’ the Hedge was one of the more interesting parts of that run. He was, and I can’t stress this enough, not evil, not robotic, and not Amy. He was just a hedgehog. A cockney hedgehog.

He had his own Errol Flynn sort of deal, fighting with Antoine’s dad (still a cyber-fascist French Fox carrying out Robotnik's orders in some backwater zone like Hiroo Onoda).

He was also Amy's cousin, he also aided Sally's brother in a few issues as well.

Hell yeah, sounds badass.

Rob's pretty sick, and he wasn't consistently a cocksucker like Geoffrey was.

Because Geoff was Penders self insert (yes really) whom he wanted to have bang Sally for several issues, but after his ass was booted they did try to show Geoff in a somewhat sympathetic light. How he was a war orphan, how he learned about magic thanks to Nagus who also manipulated him, and the final issue was how he was ready to turn on Ixis only to get his body taken over.

SEGA should have just copied Dallas and retconned the entire Archie comic series, claiming it was just a bad dream Dr Robotnik was having after eating too many chilli cheese omelettes.
