General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Out of loop here: who are they?
Unicorns are idolfaggots who seethe at the thought of a man breathing in the same room as their oshi (put simply). As far as vtubing goes, the /vt/ types who mald whenever a collab has a male in it, or a female talent interacts with a male (whether in stream, on xitter, youtube chat/comments, etc). Obviously many different flavors of unicorn but you get the gist.

So those "unicorns" are like certain Japanese fans: jealous of idols or VTubers who have relationships because they are single and hope they'll get lucky with their "oshis"?

BTW in Japan, I heard it's "normal" for at least idols (maybe VTubers too) to sign contracts that prohibit them from getting into relationships, to appease those "unicorns".

the first one yes
the second one, the big two agencies (Hololive, Nijisanji) have performers/talent who have active relationships or are even married behind the scenes, Hololive in particular has publicly stated that they dont mess with that, and no leaks have shown otherwise so far. Nijisanji, the other large JP agency, has had talent who were married or even fathers

I'm starting to believe the rrats that Melody was, if not in on the embezzlement shit, was at least way more in the know than anyone else. I have no idea if anyone can prove if this was a recent change, but Melody's old camgirl pornhub account only has 6 videos on it, none of them contain her partner that's alleged to have worked for Vshojo. I could be misremembering it, but I believe it used to have actual videos of the two on it.
>I check the name
>It's "DEMONDICE"
how often has this happened?
Demon Bros, we got another one.

Here's the part I don't understand, as someone who doesn't really get idol culture
>attraction bait
>but you can't touch, doing so is obviously criminal
>but freak out if they have a relationship
how do you put this together? Clearly the idol is off limits and yet they also want her to take a vow of chasity?

its Jap nonsense for the most part, Hololive and Vtubing as a whole's idol personalities are actually much more loose and crass than traditional ones, compared to what some say. Hololive was burned previously by having a talent that pandered too much by being GFE who burnt down once she was revealed to be married (she even has a PG thread here, Mikeneko) so they actually tend to avoid it, although some talents still decide if they want to collab with males or not, which leads to autistic discussions and flamewars about which talent is "pro unicorn" or not

South park did an episode on this already decades ago, it was on the Jonas brothers and how they wore chastity rings to get girls to think they had a chance. As it turns out Jpop (and Kpop) are offshoots of American pop idol culture. Brittany Spears, Spice girls, Aaron Carter, etc. They copied us, but while ours was just a passing fad in the 90s and 00s, for whatever cultural reason of Japanese autistic obsession its still going strong there.

For the Japanese and Korean idol industries, encouraging parasocial behavior is good for business until it isn't. Money from lonely or desperate people flows in abundance but on the other hand there have been instances of stalker-related assaults, break-ins and letters written in menstrual blood.

There's something I want to voice that I'm not sure how to word.
While he definitely fucked up on a legal level in some places, the "VShojo has failed" statement is MUCH more introspective than equivalent 'responses' you get from people or companies under fire anywhere else. Usually when a company or a person fucks up, their response is some variation of
  • Other people made a mistake that affected us, but we did everything right (Ex: Sinder)
  • There may have been some minor growing pains, but overall, we are doing better than ever (Ex: Blizzard)
  • There is no problem, all the negative PR is lies and slander made up by racists and sexists who hate us because of how virtuous we are (ex: Ubisoft)
  • This thing you say is bad is actually a good thing and you are a bigot for implying otherwise (ex: Nick Rekieta)
It's always deny that anything went wrong, pretend the problem doesn't exist and attack anyone who says otherwise. And here's a statement that actually acknowledges that mistakes were made. It's a breath of fresh air and the fact nobody acknowledges that feels weird to me.
If this were anything other than vtubing, people would at least commend them for admitting that there's a problem.
At this point the "we dun goofed" statement only makes me suspect that they want everyone to stop digging further by coming clean. As with the MowTenDoo shit, there's probably a LOT more heinous shit they don't want coming to light.
So Yuri didn't have to rebrand?
Contracts could've been different back then, but even if hypothetically speaking they weren't, if she kept the Yuri identity it would attract a lot more attention from dramakeks seeing as she was terminated for breach of contract, not amicably parting ways due to disagreements with management or some shit.

Apparently Gunrun made this artist copy the chibi model style used by Hololive X

Also here is a random Jap Twitter user trying to fool themself into thinking the reason NijiEN are hated is because VShojo manipulated everyone X

You think our celebrities don't have these issues?

Oh they do to an extent but I don't think the expectations from "unicorns" or wanting to keep an idol as pure as possible are as common. Japanese and Korean idols will get push back for being in public romantic relationships, where does that happen in the United States or Europe?

All of Europe & America's celebrities are whores.

Basically all of those parasocial fucks that think that because a Vtuber is collabing with a male it means they're basically fucking each other behind scenes. maybe more unhinged than hat. Remember that meltdown over Rushia when it was revealed she was married for a year? Yeah, hose types.

What's next, she fucked Gunrun too?
Though knowing her, it might be a non-zero chance

It's a pretty sure-fire chance she was, actually. Froot was likely behind everything. I'm starting to think Gunrun was just a fall guy. Froot and Iron-Mouse were behind this. Ironmouse stole the money and pinned the blame on Gunrun who was sleeping with Froot.

back when boybands where a thing you had the same clauses of no public relationships, because selling the fantasy (not necessarily "I can fuck her" but simply attention) is part of the package. if you go back further it was such a common thing they outright parodied it.

Hololive was burned previously by having a talent that pandered too much by being GFE who burnt down once she was revealed to be married
cover got burned by her saying too much to japanese keemstar trying to clear it up instead of letting it blow over. they don't care about GFE, they care about their talent not being speds.
