Forgotten / Memory-holed Psyops - What things do you believe were pushed heavily into public consciousness only to be forgotten that they were pushed at all?

Could also go in the AI Hysteria thread, but I noticed the Stop Misinformation campaign thing fizzled out before AI took over everything. Almost everyone I've met in real life just recites anything a Google AI bot says without any critical thinking whatsoever. That includes people that I assume would know better, such as being in charge of archives, etc. I see people of all age groups doing this as well, it's not just boomers. I get that people don't understand how their technology works, but I would have assumed they know that it takes information from different sources while being extremely prone to error, rather than just being a "magical information text box."

i think people are generally aware of the magical information text box being ai generated and unreliable but i think this isn't even an issue with people being stupid it's an issue with people being trained to trust the information coming from these machines. the current version they're using is unreliable and retarded so they have to second guess things they didn't before

and it's even worse when people dont want to second guess themselves. i dont get this as much anymore because im older but you have no idea how many times i've had old people fuck up dates of recent historical events and then double down on it, eg 'the ipad came out in 2004'. It was one of the older ones before the ipad. You know what i'm talking about. At least, you should! You're probably just too young to remember

My mother actually used to do this when I was a child with me using computers and owning a Nintendo DS and Gamecube at the time. I'm now in my mid 20's, and I don't have carpal tunnel syndrome despite playing video games for years as a child/teenager.
my mom had carpal tunnel really bad in the 90s and 2000s from being a seamstress and working a data entry job but i think a lot of that has gone away now that people understand ergonomics better

Less psyop and more memory hole, the Tunnel Jews in NYC have been almost entirely forgotten by anyone not an Internet racist. Xitter users claiming to hear hebrew under their floors and walls, being called schizo, and then a few months later videos of the most orthodox jews imaginable popping up out of sewer grates and manhole covers, and the police finding a bloodstained mattress and children's clothes in the tunnels.
I tried to find good, non-dubbed over originals of the videos but they're a bitch to locate and gave up. If anyone has them stored away in their archives I'd appreciate them dropped here, or a link to a Jim stream or something.

Peak Oil

In the 1990's, there was a lot of fear mongering "science" about how oil production would start declining around 2000. Graphs floating around at the time showed something like 80% reduced output by 2020.

The early weeks of the news coming out of China are still very weird to look back on. I'm not sure if it was a western psyop, a chinese one, both, or Chinas smog and various pollution issues really are that bad (combined with malnutrition). When it was being informally called wuflu, before western news sources really started taking it seriously, there were videos coming out of people just dropping dead in China, of the vans disappearing the sick, of drones flying around telling people to stay indoors. Not to mention supposedly welding people inside their apartments. Not that I doubt the CCP is that insane, but this stuff gets to the US, Europe, etc and only the mass hysteria happens. Well, various governments also found their own ways to be authoritatian about it, but where there should have been major deaths in cities you basically saw nothing, and I can't say I really see the impact of what that should have done. Maybe I'm supposed to believe their variant was also way stronger than a more contagious one that inevitably got everywhere.
I usually go with 'whats the least convoluted' explanation and

Government run psyops, ie ones with fake propaganda, etc (clearly as this thread implies) are real;

but the more simple explanation is that

a) The Chinese are unhealthy, smoke a lot, have horrid air quality (seriously, theyre basically just breathing in tar in the air constantly)

and b) As with SARS and other viruses, the more deadly strains wrecked havoc earlier on, killing their hosts and spreading less, and we were set with the less deadly ones (overall).

The psyop here is more that Western media ran with covid as if it were the same virus that it was on day 1, and that it would kill us all,

when mostly by the time it was widespread within the west, and certainly a year after- for some it was still deadly, but for most, we lived through it.
