most indie devs are actually competent at what they do, since to make a living off a game without a publisher you actually need to be capable of making a game (and therefore depend on your own skills) that not only would appeal to a large enough audience, but also to be good at problem solving (making a game is a chain of problem solving), since shitty games dont sell all that well (been there!)
thor is a very rare example of an extremely shitty game developer, and the fact that he is unable to finish the game is proof of his dogshit programming skills - with code like that i would lose motivation to work on it just the same

One thing I’ve found really funny is that even some of Jason’s boosted YoutubeShorts actually hinted or outright showed one of his worst traits, only it was framed as something GOOD there… that being his inability to compromise or concede when he thinks he’s right.

The short in question that made this click is about him social engineering to get his ‘questions answered’ (at Blizzard for course) that weren’t supposed to be, and he make a big stink about the fact that he refused to give the names of those who failed up, claiming that he stood his ground even in front of management.

All of this was in service of him being a genius that came up with an amazing training program that stopped him in his tracks next time (ignoring that he was probably trying EXACTLY the same tactics and that isn’t realistic)… but it also illustrated that same stubbornness that is fucking him up so badly at this point. It’s just interesting to look back and realize that Jason’s worst traits are the ones he’s most proud of.

It's free "look at me im so smart" points to most viewers especially if they tune in beyond the introductory phase and aren't technical. However, Mald probably knows it would out him further and has to stick to visual logic puzzles and plausible deniability cheating.

Games aside, you think a puzzle enjoyer with 20 years of developer experience would do programming puzzles at some point in years of "dev" streams. His persona is so fragile that he can't actually attempt anything he claims he's good at or else he outs himself.
Prime and Theo have both done Advent of Code puzzles, for example. Coincidentally, both of them wrote code to help solve puzzles at DEFCON and Mald didn't, which again only matters because of how much he talks himself up. If he didn't lie then no one would care.

Yeah, it's the same bullshit as expecting people to unconditionally support small businesses.
Indies are just trying to make a living alone or with a small group of friends, it isn't some noble cause.
That being said, indie games are basically never a live service due to server hosting costs, so they're irrelevant to SKG.
