Because he stopped mentally maturing at 16, and to a 16 year old, "Thor" is super badass and cool, because nordic gods or whatever. Hearing the name "Jason" probably brings back memories of his mom scolding him with his full name when he fucked the family dog or something. He also probably just hasn't interacted with enough people IRL to understand that not everyone is going to feel comfortable addressing you by your nickname. Some people feel really awkward doing that. "Thor" isn't that bad, but I knew a dude who desperately wanted to go by "Pistol Pete" and literally nobody could say that shit without laughing.
