One Piece - I'm Gonna Be the Pirate King!

Gotta remember that, in universe, the World Government is probably gonna be toppled within the next few weeks or a month or two. Bonney just needs to lie low until then. It's crazy to think Luffy entered the New World and became an Emperor within a month or so.
Yeah but Kuma and Bonney gotta be part of the toppling.

All Roger did was find a massive treasure, and folks took notice. It was only when Whitebeard died that folks started to think that there was something more to it.
I would bet that the Pirate King title was the World Government's idea to make it seem that Roger was the big deal, not the fact that he found a Hidden Island that was kept secret for hundreds of years.

The “Pirate King” monicker originates from the World Economy newspaper, of which we are shown Morgans prints whatever he thinks will sell more issues, even to the detriment of the WG. It’s also where the phrase “Fame, power, and wealth…” originated in-story.

I know it’s by Oda’s design, but I always finding it funny that everything about the treasure after Marineford seems to paint it as some world changing thing at the center of a prophecy that Luffy is the key to.

Remember when The One Piece was just a treasure that was felt behind by Roger that he let a lot of people look for, and one of those people looking for it was some kid with a hat?

I would disagree this was ever the case. The actual treasure itself, alongside Roger, were so nebulous as to be little more than an excuse to kickstart the plot, but it always held that Luffy acquiring it would require world renown to begin with. It was assumed we wouldn’t even find out details about Roger until the very end, which is why learning his name also held a D. made Drum Kingdom feel like endgame One Piece when it was contemporary.

Read the spoilers. Yes, Roger was interested in Shaki and she was not but still. Being rejected is not cucking. Just retarded to call it that.
Still not cucking though. That is rejection.
Yeah, cucking is when your spouse is fucking someone behind your back and you're just ok with it instead of cutting things off.

I know that Luffy would have to become a big name to become pirate king and achieve his dream. The thing I’m talking about is back when One Piece started, the treasure was just something Luffy was looking for, because it meant freedom to do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted.

Fast forward to Marineford, and Whitebeard uses his last moments to talk about how it’ll be found by some legendary person Roger is waiting for, a person of prophecy, who will change the very foundations of the world…and that makes the government scared shitless.

Then we have Oden. Oden writes that the treasure is not just a treasure, but was something that was left behind by a Joy Boy, a mythical figure from a kingdom that has the government shit so many bricks, they’ll kill somebody and destroy where they live just so nobody learns the name of it. And it just so happens Joy Boy returned in the form of Gear 5 Luffy.

And Roger didn’t just laugh, he found something he was “too early” to do anything with, and he had some dream, the same dream as Luffy, who feels he needs to be Pirate King in order to make it a reality. And it was found on an island where he figured out the truths about everything the government had censored for hundreds of years, and how they are all connected.

And Oda just continues to add pieces to the puzzle, which he feels should only ever be solved at the very specific moment at the very specific time he adds the final piece: Luffy.

And THAT is why I say “hey, remember when The One Piece was some treasure left behind by Roger for somebody to find, and one of those people wanting to for it was just some kid with a hat?” Those were fun times, weren’t they?

The times were fun, but not for the reasons you’re inferring.

You’re clearly dissatisfied that Luffy is being presented as someone who should reach the One Piece for reasons outside of as a mechanism for him to achieve his dream, but the core ending of the story, that Luffy will reach the One Piece because he set out for it, has not changed. You dislike that Luffy finding the One Piece has greater weight outside his personal goals, and is being set up as such. But none of Luffy’s adventures are a result of these prophecies, Luffy fulfilling these proffecies are the consequences of his adventures.

The One Piece you’re trying to describe was never a thing and would have never been a thing. At some point Oda would have had to reveal information about it, and he’s smart enough to know BIG MONEY would be insufficient; he has to justify its existence within its world at large.

I’m not dissatisfied . If anything, Luffy fulfilling prophecies without knowing or caring is probably one of the things Oda is really good at that shows his skills as a writer. If anything, I’d say that the way the treasure is talked about is just one of those things that makes me stop and think of how much has happened and how much has changed. I’m also really interested in figuring out how everything comes together since Oda is so deliberate with how he structures things, especially considering that sometimes it’s clear that the question is how Luffy plays a part into things .

To accentuate your point, I feel Oda is good at giving different perspectives. The treasure is real but not important to people like Luffy who cares more about exploring the world and seeing people go after their dreams. The way I always see it is that once we finally get to see what it truly is the best thing Oda can do is show us how everyone reacts to it and what they truly want out of obtaining The One Piece.

We have known the Poneglyphs and Roger have some connection since Skypia since it was shown then that Roger had some way to Add to a poneglyph.

When we learned what the Poneglyphs actually were during Eneis Lobby we were basically told that the Poneglyph plot and Raftel plot lead to the same place.

I’m pretty sure that Luffy was the only one of the SHs that’s actually interested in the treasure. Everyone else has their own dreams. Maybe you could also include Robin’s reaction because of the poneglyphs needed to get to Laugh Tale and how the two things are connected, but I can’t see how the other SHs would react regardless of what it is because I think their goals could be achieved without the treasure.

you think nami is not dying to see whatever huge treasure is at the end of the road? also i still think everyones goals are going to end up connecting once they get to laugh tale. like sanji is gonna find out the all blue is just the world before whatever happened in the past happened and zoro is going to have to fight mihawk on the island once buggy and company show up.

I think it’s more of a case where for the non monsters of the crew, if they have a dream, they really don’t need to have their sights set on the One Piece to achieve it. Though yes, Nami would like to see a massive treasure because she’s a material girl, and Robin’s quest to find history involves the poneglyphs, which lead to the treasure. The others and wanting to reach Laugh Tale for reasons other than helping Luffy? Eh, not so much.

Don't forget Franky, his dream is to have built the boat that the next Pirate King sails. The instant Luffy's dream is fulfilled, so is Franky's.

Retards forget the meaning of words and cry when you correct them.
Doesn't matter how you try to spin it an L is an L.

Roger and his entire crew were btfod by Shaki's beauty ( except for Rayleigh ), if she had Boa's fruit they would have all turned to stone

Roger tries to kidnap her when she rejects him (incel loser confirmed)

Shaki ends up with Rayleigh 😂

Roger ignores Gloriosas's love for him and effectively destroys her life ( massive L )

"Clashes" with Garp , gets btfod by an opponent who is only using his fists 👊

This is your Pirate King ? Meanwhile while all of this nonsense was going on Rocks was just finishing humbling Kaido, knocking him out cold with a single kick.

Still not cuckoldry though.

That fruit does not work like normal power scaling does. It is like poison gas. Dying to it does not mean one is weak or strong, It is outside.

Roger tries to kidnap her when she rejects him (incel loser confirmed)
That was stupid of him and I concede it. Still, he moved on later and even laughed it off.

Shaki ends up with Rayleigh 😂
That is an a Rayleigh W, not a Roger L.

Roger ignores Gloriosas's love for him and effectively destroys her life ( massive L )
No comment, neither here, nor there. Can't force love.

This is Haki we are talking about. Using weapons does not increase power. It just switches blunt damage to cutting damage.

Kaidou at his weakest. Strong but not the powerhouse Luffy needed to achieve divinity to win against.

My issue with Rocks is the following: We know nothing about him over that his personality to an extend. We do not know how the God Valley fight went. And it is worth mentioning that as a leader, he is inferior to Roger. Everyone in Roger's crew liked and followed him, seeing him as the most beloved person in their lives. Rocks, on the other hand was treated like a tumor that they removed and no one misses him. Everyone of his crew talks that talks about it does because they gave a (small) damn about each other but never Rocks. Rocks was a strong pirate but he failed as a captain harder than almost any other. It takes more than strength to be Pirate King. Rocks proved it.

Are we seriously going to do these Twitter things now? Like Zoro vs Sanji and Shanks vs Mihawk?

So what’s that, three non monster SHs that have a stake in reaching Laugh Tale now?
