The
Pirate Software Game Jam 17 is officially over with 421 (damn, one off) entries… and Mald obviously nowhere to be seen. Can anyone in Mald’s Discord see if anyone’s even talking about it, let alone playing the games people worked on?
Alright I gotta sperg about these games, looking for any hidden gems but aside from the first game that was posted to the game jam mocking him I have not found anything else yet.
Half of these games are unfinished or unplayable.
Here's the first one I'll mention, "Love at first flight"
"Have you ever thought to yourself: "damn if we weren't at an airport right now I would totally ask her out". Well, that's what this game's about. And since it's a game in 2025, might as well make it a soulslike. You are going on a singular date with a cute girl at the airport. Don't fuck it up and die. CONTROLS: Click the enemies when close to hit -- attempting a hit uses stamina HOW TO PLAY: Requires fullscreening the game, controls are just normal WASD. Made during Pirate Software Game Jam 2025."

The game instructs you to find an empty seat at the start and no matter what I do or press, nothing happens.
EDIT: Call me a retard if you want to, the game does in fact progress if you click the chair (Controls never said that and it turns the screen pink by highlighting it, lol)

But considering that this is how the gameplay looks afterwards and how bats spawn out of the ground and fly up your asshole, let's just pretend it had a better less nonsensical idea behind that unclickable chair.
Next is a game called "The Only One" but the actual title is in morse code, kinda gay.
"Hey Pirat software jam Team, we had a big struggle with the drag an drop (inventory-system). So its not playable. Sad story."
The funny thing here is that I think the typo is unintentional because the game doesn't fucking work.

Wow those are AI images, anyways,
Next is "Dude Just Solve It" which boasts as having only one puzzle. The UI is fucking broken when you launch the game and it just has a binary puzzle on the wall and a heartbound inspired light puzzle, same color scheme and pixel density as that same retarded puzzle and several broken light sources on the wall that have text saying "Pretend this works" If you couldn't get lighting working in Godot then I have nothing to say, the key breaking open the entrance door animation looks also incredibly dogshit.

This is the best that mald's gunt guards can do for fun.
Next up is "World Break" which is a super fitting name because when you go outside and interact with a sign the game softlocks.

Next

Moving on.
Ok so I found one in here that is an actual game and IS playable.
"Fearsome Five" Which is a turn based strategy game with cards and energy. This does at least match up as something you would make as your first game in Godot so there's something atleast. This one gets a pass.

I gotta say. I know that these are games made by people who have never made games before, but holy shit man these are fucking abysmal. Half of these don't run or have such limited functionality that anyone and I mean ANYONE should be able to produce a better game within 3 hours of using an engine. I think these prove that failure isn't always a worthwhile learning experience. I remember a time where you could go to Newgrounds, ArmourGames, AddictingGames, Miniclips, or any other flash game site and find several games that you could play for 5+ hours at a time that had a quality to them which most indie games on steam don't even deliver at the 5$ mark.
