My UV82 is not playing ball. I guess by default it won't even allow you to enter a channel in UHF that is outside its assigned band? I've only ever used this thing as a long range walkie talkie. Kek.

its always a good time, i just stumbled on it one day when just scanning the bands and boy was i in for a surprise.

most of the handhelds wont receive the hf bands.
looks like these are the specs for the uv-82
[RX] 136 – 174MHz, 400 – 520MHz, 68-108MHz (FM Broadcast)
and this is 7.200 mhz
even if it could receive it cant decode lsb/usb (lower sideband/upper sideband) think of these as half of an AM signal(one sideband).
i have a handheld that can receive AM , but only on the air bands 108-137 MHz

For HF radio links, it uses a software modem that's a wrapper around the codec2 raw data modes with an added ARQ and beaconing layer [under active development].

The Reticulum Network Stack provides full end to end encryption, perfect forward secrecy and handles the networking layer.
The Nomad Net client is used to serve page requests. Selenium and beautifulsoup4 is used to render the site's content into a lightweight markdown format. While the node serving page requests does need a standard Internet connection to access the site, it's more than possible to host content without it.


The full source code for both the HF software modem and KF node will be published soon.

I have the setup to do this already - 5W HF radio and a G5RV mounted too low to the ground…

Yes, absolutely. Not only can it mesh with other HF peers, but it can mesh across any type of networking device. It's optimized from from 300 bit per second packet radio to 1 gbps fiber. One node in the network could be an HF radio, another a LoRa device, another a TCP Server running as an onion service, connected to one over an Ethernet switch. All of this can be done with minimal setup.

Keep in mind, for everyone here wanting to be a 7200 sneeder (or wants to work stations on anywhere lower than 14 MHz) that managing to be heard on there is harder than you think. The 40 meter band (which 7200 kHz is part of) is harder to put up a good antenna for than for 20 or 10 meters, since your end-fed or dipole will have to be longer in order to be able to be able to transmit with enough efficiency to be heard, and if you're farther away from the Northeast where most of these guys are, your antenna will have to be higher up to avoid NVIS. Then you have to keep in mind most of these guys on 7200 are running amplifiers that lets them output hundreds or thousands of watts, a 20 watt G90 or 100 watt standard rig won't really cut it there unless conditions are really good and your antenna is good enough, assuming you don't get drowned in the signals over you. These amplifiers cost up to thousands of dollars and will fry you to a crisp if you're not careful with your setup. That's probably why you don't see many Kiwis on the frequency, at least, none that are loud enough to be picked up over the rest of the signals.

i thought about trying to spam some of the BMJ clips or something but i can barley hear anyone when i listen on my TX antenna, i can only get any kind of good reception on my RX only mla 30 powered loop.

i doubt 100w with my antenna would get out.
 
this is how am transmitter antennas work, the entire tower is the hot element, fun stuff if you ever have to climb one. just make sure you jump when you first grab on, (or use a fiberglass ladder)
The solution to wiring up the tower lights is pretty cool for those.

I've looked into Joe a little bit. His callsign is AC1DD, and his name is Joe Italiano. Apparently he's a "known pedophile" and is connected to NAMBLA somehow? I don't know, I've posted some links to some sites talking about him. I don't know what to make of these claims since I haven't seen any proof (I haven't watched the video supplied in the link, although I think that might have more to do with him being a wife beater?) and we all know how credible your average ham radio operator is, although it would certainly explain why everyone rightfully hates him, well that and his habit of continously speaking in leftist talking points.

Does anyone know if he's ever been confronted about this on air? And if so, are there any recordings? There is this youtube channel that records a lot of 7200, Sparkyzilla85 which is how I found out who Joe is. I clearly recognized his voice since he sounds like Bill Clinton. But I haven't watched all the videos yet at all.

I apologize for not archiving all of this shit, I'm away from home at the moment and if I were home I would post archives of a bunch of the stuff on these sites.

Nice. One could make a dedicated unit for this mode using Radioberry (SDR transceiver hat for raspberry pi). A screen and keyboard.. Plus maybe a lora module..

Does anyone know where I could get a fully threaded pvc/abs pipe. I want to make a adjustable loading coil for my 40m 1/4 wave antenna to load it on 160m-60m, preferably 2inches and above in width
Honestly, you might be better served getting a harbor freight thread/tap kit. You'd be limited to pretty small diameter pipes, but still it's something.
Why is it you want it threaded? Just to keep the wires looking nice on the wrap?
 
Just going to be a slight debbie downer, check your jurisdictional laws. At least in the US when I took the test a decade ago, broadcasting encrypted signals is illegal, along with cursing, so https is out. All it would take is one bored boomer to report you to the FCC for improperly using the airwaves and get all your shit confiscated at best

Also as a technical question: Who is hosting the gateway? I can't imagine there are that many open repeaters out there that will allow unmonitored internet traffic. I could very well be wrong though
That's still the case. You can't transmit anything that obscures the message. That said, this isn't really requiring a special password or obscuring the meaning of the data being transmitted... so by my amateur reading I'd say its a grey area until the FCC gets involved.
 
I've just got to the point in the Archive of the 15/08/25 stream, so I now know this exists and wanted some feedback for a radio protocol to replace mobile networks I've been working on in my free time as a hobby.
So far i'm using a 900mhz (33cm) signal to avoid the need for a license in the US, since that falls into the ISM band. it takes advantage of QAM-64 with a 5mhz bandwidth with 25 subcarriers, with a theoretical, optimal 30mbps (3.75 MB/S).

I'm currently using a 3d printed Sierpinski triangle with copper wire embedded into it to have a minimal footprint for using the 33cm band, and to allow for using other bands with reduced efficiency. using the allotted 4 watts in the ISM band you can achieve a theorical and optimal 80mi (130km) of range, in practice it's closer to 60mi with optimal conditions and minimal attenuating materials, though I'm in the mountains so it's not the best testing area.

I'm also taking advantage of mesh networking and am trying to figuring out how to implement Improved layer 2 protocol to give better network traffic, this is where I stuggle the most, math is one of my strongest suits, good at designing and implmenting the hardware ( as I want to make the cheapest possible hardware for this project, so anyone can use it ) the software is the real hard part for me.

I'm also looking into ways to get encryption without calling it encryption since the FCC Title 47 § 97.113(a)(4) prohibits the use of it, and since I want widespread use I need to find a workaround or some some rule that makes it exempt from the FCC regulations.

For my Testing using a RTL-SDR, and a Raspberry PI 5 I've shoved into a 3d printed frame with some web-book parts I ripped out of my childhood acer aspire one. It's primary usecase is data transfer, my big goal is to host a game of Halo Combat Evolved ( the 2001 release, not MCC ) or over the network as a good test, If you got some suggestions let me know, yes there are better ways to do this, but I want to learn more about building radio protocols and telecommunication engineering, and purposely making this obtusely challengeing as I can because it's fun for me.
