Couple on bike get fatally crushed between two trucks - Salem, India (2024.01.28 )
A couple was killed in a horrific road accident after a truck crushed them to death in Tamil Nadu's Salem, police said on Sunday.
The victims were identified as 30-year-old Alagarasan, a construction worker, his 25-year-old wife, Ilamathi.
They were travelling with their five-year-old and two-year-old toddlers on a two-wheeler towards Pannavadi. The two toddlers survived the accident with minor injuries and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
While crossing Raman Nagar, the traffic slowed down. Alagarasan, positioned behind a bus, came to a stop on his two-wheeler. Unfortunately, a truck transporting paddy from Karnataka hit their vehicle from behind, resulting in the deaths of Alagarasan and Ilamathi.
The bodies of the deceased were recovered by the Karumulai Kudal Police and transported to Mettur for autopsy.
Police are currently investigating the matter with CCTV footage of the incident. The truck driver is currently on the run.
