Demon Slayer is popular for two main reasons:
1. The story is standard shonen fare that’s fast-paced and doesn’t drag on needlessly, maintains a consistent quality throughout its run, and had an ending that was mostly well received. This is quite rare for long-running shonen manga.
2. It’s animated by Ufotable, universally considered to be the best animation studio in Japan, and they knocked it out of the park with Demon Slayer.

Basically it’s the perfect anime for normies who want to watch cool, well-animated fights with hype moments and a simple story that they can easily follow along without thinking too hard.

Metokur is still exceptional in terms of the sheer volume of manga and anime he consooms, but there are a decent number of guys his age who will at least acknowledge the classics like Akira or Ghost In The Shell because they used to watch them on the Sci Fi channel, or rented the VHS tapes and got traumatized by Urotsukidoji.

The American comic book industry fascinates me because they seem to be choosing the worst of both worlds: they refuse to try and move outside of the capeshit they built their industry on, but all their attempts to modernise said capeshit are by pandering to niche demographics, most of whom don't even read comics.

This is something I think not enough people realise about manga/anime, assuming it's all just Dragon Ball and Gundam (probably because only the massively popular ones get anime adaptations).

It is insane how broad the medium is. No matter what you're in the mood for someone has probably made a manga for it --one of my favourites is about an autistic guy who's just really fucking into climbing mountains-- whereas American comics are like opening a library that only stocks Stephen King. Great if you're in the mood for Stephen King, but if you wanna read anything else too fucking bad.

i look at this shit every now and then and ask myself the same question every time. it's not just him, it was Juju, Vito the Pedo, Balldo and a bunch of other faggots who got assmad about some guy making a comic book. I don't read superhero stuff but if he published some weird tales adaptation or a sword and sorcery thing I'd probably buy a book out of spite.

Most people who are Gen-X or older hate anime with a passion, my best guess is that it's too fast paced and it doesn't have enough hostess fruit pie ads.

But Millennials were subject to the "Asian Invasion" of the late 90's and early 2000's; and then the Zoomers and Alphas grew up with anime as standard entertainment. No barrier to entry like finding a Suncoast store that had the right DBZ tapes you needed to find out of Goku and Vegeta kicked Kid Buu's ass or not.

So for Richard, Ethan, and the rest of the crusty old fucks that rage against anime, this is Hell. It doesn't get worse than seeing Superman mogged by a 12 year old with a sword. You know what’s funny? Wasn’t it just a few years ago that these guys was talking about how great it was that manga was outselling superhero comics hand over fist? IIRC, Clownfish TV even had some drama since the glazing came around the death of Kentaro Miura, creator of Berserk.

That was mostly the Fandom Menace crowd, who are at best CG-adjacent. They share the same rallying cry of woke shitlibs ruining Western pop culture. The difference is that FM people are primarily interested in making videos dunking on Hollywood/Disney whereas CG people are primarily interested in shilling their shitty books. The success of anime/manga in the West is a boon to the FM, who can use it to grift views, but it’s a direct existential threat to EVS & co.
