The CS economy is in ABSOLUTE FREEFALL RIGHT NOW, with one of the biggest CS YouTubers saying the following:

My sides were gone with the tower meme.

For the farmers who are dickriding their favorite streamer for slop. Knives were rugpulled, not inventories, covert weapons went fucking stonks up! If you are a nigger who only invested in knives and not covert weapons... R.I.P. If you just collected coverts... you basically won the biggest CS skin lottery.

If only Gaben could genetically modify the world's mothers so we'd get a lower drop rate of FAGGOTS.
Sorry, DOTA2 players are too profitable for Gaben to do that.

Good update. All these insufferable traders get what they deserve despite the signs being clear for years. Hopefully this means we can reach a more reasonable economy where one can actually afford the fancy skin they like the most. My only knife lost over 50% of its value and I don't care, I love it and I'm keeping it. Legendary rugpull.

Why hasn't this been reversed, what is Valve even thinking by doing this?
They might just want to wind down the economy with how much shady shit was happening around it.

Another good thing ruined by russians.

I maybe open like a case or two a month, generally selling anything I get. I’ve never gotten better than a pink. This update is great. I might think about work for trade ups to get something kinda cool.

Hilarious that people used it as a stock exchange. It’s something you can’t even necessarily get your money physically out of. If you sell stuff the money is still locked to your steam account.

There are third-party trading sites which let you sell your skins for fiat/crypto. Those sites will be history soon lol

I've seen some people saying that "Valve is going to lose so much money off this update" but is that really the case? As other posters have mentioned, Valve analyzes their players and makes changes with the sole purpose of becoming as profitable as possible. Valve only loses money here in a hypothetical world where the majority of the expensive trading happens on the steam marketplace, but isn't most extreme gambling and high spending done on third party sites where Valve isn't making any money from it at all? I don't follow the skin trading market at all, so there could be something I'm missing but it seems like the only people Valve actually fuck here are the people who make money off of their game who aren't Valve. Valve are alot of things, but "your friend" and "suicidal" aren't among those things. I doubt the easier access to high ranked items is something they're doing out of the goodness of their heart to include more players, and with all the analytics they do on the people who participate in their system, I doubt they'd make a change that they project would not make them more profitable in the long run or at least allow them to exert more control on their cosmetics market.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking myself haha, you beat me too it seconds before I posted my message, and in a much more concise message. Big loser here doesn't seem to be Valve, it seems to be people profiting off of their work who aren't them.

If anything they've probably gained money from people panic selling on the Steam marketplace. As far as I know, every other off-steam cs2 marketplace seems to be down due to the current happening.

Panic sellers giving Valve a cut for selling their $900 Knife in a panic and their steambux can't leave Steam so they can either buy Steam Wallet gift codes or a Steam Deck/Index I guess.

edit: It would be really really funny if Valve made it so I could trade up like 5 or 10 Elite Grade hats in tf2 for an Unusual right now.

Cases went down in price because you don't need them to open a knife anymore.
