Since there doesn't seem to be a thread on this, I thought I should post it.

In my experience, fanfiction writers seem to be the most self absorbed people, often bashing others for having similar ideas and just plain being huge douches. Not to mention most of the stuff these people write is down right unreadable due to it being filled with Mary Sues and horrible plots and downright two dimensional characters.
Here's an example of one guy: https://www.fanfiction.net/u/3845732/Izar369
mmm that bio

I'm a member of FFN, but fortunately, I don't do Mary Sues. Doing fanfiction is actually what helped me discover my passion for writing. However, unlike so many FFN users I've tried to respect canon and the rules of spelling and grammar. I write in one fandom which is notorious for its Mary Sues and fantards who pair up the male characters of that fandom with their shitty self-inserts. You have to slog through mountains of crap to find a story that is at least halfway decent.

Oh, and let's not forget that many of these fantards who do Mary Sues/self-inserts overreact when you give them constructive criticism. I've been called a bitch, dumbass, among other things, for daring to call fantards out on their... tardness.

ShakespeareHemmingway is a fantastic author of a good number of Garfield fanfics, such as:

Garfield: Royal Rescue: Garfield helps celebrate wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton
The Garfield Network: Garfield teaches Mark Zuckerberg about life love, and the ladies! Based partially on The Social Network Movie
Garfield: Sheen Instincts: Garfield talks to Charlie Sheen to save the show Two and a Half Men

And a good many others.

An excerpt from Garfield: Royal Rescue:
"Garfield be careful of stress it is killer with heart disease and cholesterol." Jon Arbuckle warned with advice.

"I have no time for stress, there is British damsel that needs saving." Garfield said with stern voice.

"Farewell Jon Arbuckle. Hold down fort when I am gone." Garfield said as he left for adventure.

"You know it Garfield. Show them what a real man is made of." Jon Arbuckle said as he grasped Garfields arm for manly handshake.

Garfield then boarded his jet and lifted off for take off with thunder like speed. Garfield soared through the sky over oceans and oceans until he came to Island of England. Garfield then braked his jet and prepared for jumping.

"Time for a British invasion." Said Garfield as he leaped out of Jet into country of Great Britain to administer justice like a Prime Minister of iron.

Garfield opened his parachute with lasagna logo but was in no mood for playtime.

"Parachutes are for little girls and babies in wheelchairs." Said Garfield as he cut his parachute off for free fall fun.

This reminds me… This isn't from FF.net, but I remember this one girl on Deviantart had a terrible "goth" Mary Sue. I generally don't mind "perfect" characters as they could be pulled off (and very well, too), but this girl's character was just extremely annoying.

For one, she was a self-insert, but heavily idealized. The girl's art was actually rather good, but her story was terrible. There wasn't much of a plot, she just had everybody be madly in love with her character (including Johnny from Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Freaky Fred from Courage the Cowardly Dog). She completely bastardized everybody else's OCs and she couldn't go a chapter or drawing without talking about how her character is ~so perfect~ and is ~the most beautiful girl in the world~. Frankly, the story and character both annoyed and bored me (how does that work), but I kept reading because I probably hate myself. She was also very unreceptive to even the lightest of criticism and would block anybody who critiqued her and hid their comments.

I suppose eventually enough people told her that her character was a Mary Sue and she pitched a fit and told everybody to "grow up." Then somebody posted about her story on the Mary Sue sporking community on Livejournal and she threw another tantrum and deleted her story.

This is years ago, but it was still very interesting watching her and the whole drama unfold. She was also very self-absorbed. Now she's on tumblr and is a bit of a SJW, but no longer as lulzy.

It's frustrating to see that. A person with good art, but crappy content.

I know the feeling.
There was a Fallout 3 fic that didn't have too bad of an intro, then quickly went downhill. I stopped reading after the rape threats the Tunnel Snakes were giving the Female Wanderer because SO EDGY. Oh, and Jonas is also an ephebophile and Amata is totes a super cunt who was never the Female Wanderer's friend and just used her for comfort sex.

I think that's another thing I am not fond of with some of these fic writers. Usually, a work is already kinda dark. For some, however, they feel like they need to use every "dark and edgy" cliche because that automatically makes it a good story or something??? Some can do it right because they understand you shouldn't toss in every cliche, especially without understanding why they work for others. These guys? Nope.

And let's not forget the yaoi fans who pair up every male who so much as say "hi" to each other despite their canon orientations or even the fact that the two loathe each other, because hating someone means you totally want to bone them.

I've tried giving my own share of advice, but... In the end, it's just a waste. So now I just point and laugh or facepalm at their stupidity. I've had this one girl go all emo, trying to make me feel sorry for her so that I would take back my review. She acted like she appreciated the critique then did a 180 and bitched me out, all but calling me worse than Hitler for daring to say that her work is anything but perfect.
She was even one of those who claim they want critique when really they just want you to be an asspatter. After that, she said she doesn't want critiques.

I think one of my favorites is Hells-Angel-Kanashii simply for the complete failure of doing the research and her angsty Sue being named "sadness."
There's also this chick who thinks she's a great author. She wrote one high school drama story about her self insert then wrote a sequel about her self insert's daughter that was pretty much the same damn thing all over again. Her fics also have some logic fails and, I hate to say it, look like they're written by a fifteen-year-old girl.

It's frustrating to see that. A person with good art, but crappy content.

Oh man, these have got to be jokes--at least I hope they are. I never thought I would read about Garfield and Jon Arbuckle waterboarding Charlie Sheen. But I did and it was pretty fucked up.

Ahhhh, have I a FF for you. It involves the Legend of Zelda, and griffins, and orgies and one of the world's greatest Mary Sues named Jenna. Pull up a seat and pour yourself a tall drink or four- you'll need 'em.

My I present to you... My Inner Life.

Click on the "watch on YouTube" button to go to the entire playlist, which has two prologue parts, 42 audio chapters (dramatically read by the amazing manwithoutabody), two author's notes, and also a drinking game. Yes, it is quite a lot to take in, but I assure you, if you emerge from the other side alive, you will be a much stronger individual for it. Or mentally deranged. Whichever.

This guy's profile goes from a sentence proclaiming his love of Shakespeare and Hemmingway and hopes they will influence his writing then goes right on to add that he loves writing Garfield stories. Doesn't even skip a beat. Never thought I'd see those two sentences strung together so casually.
