Ahhhh, have I a FF for you. It involves the Legend of Zelda, and griffins, and orgies and one of the world's greatest Mary Sues named Jenna. Pull up a seat and pour yourself a tall drink or four- you'll need 'em.

My I present to you... My Inner Life.

Click on the "watch on YouTube" button to go to the entire playlist, which has two prologue parts, 42 audio chapters (dramatically read by the amazing manwithoutabody), two author's notes, and also a drinking game. Yes, it is quite a lot to take in, but I assure you, if you emerge from the other side alive, you will be a much stronger individual for it. Or mentally deranged. Whichever.

Omg....I woke up to see this post _blank_ . I kinda forgot Jenna existed lmao

I've never really bothered with reading or writing fanfics, to be honest. Cwcville Vice is pretty much my first and probably only fanfic, and even then it's not really a "fan" fiction. Just about every fanfic I've come across has either been some kind of convoluted fantasy episode of an IP or some basement dweller's escape fantasy because they desperately want some anime character to be their waifu. I'll probably contribute more to this when I've had my coffee.

Oh boy, FFN is actually where I started my internet career....and I have a doozy of a story to tell you....

Once upon a time, when I was young and very very dumb, I used to review stories that were posted in a section dedicated to a certain game that just came out at the time. One of my reviews caught the attention of a author on the site, who added me on MSN (yes, very long ago this was) and as I was a newb to the web at the time, I just blindly added them. That was a wrong decision to make....

It all started off rather well with me and them RPing and just being plain weird, but few months in to our "friendship", things started taking a turn for the BATSHIT INSANE

They started having these weird mood swings in which they would rant endlessly in ALL CAPS about how so-and-so author on FFN was "harassing" them and how they were writing fics that they did not like. This would go on for an hour non stop. They had a habit of "flaming" people and once I was the target of such with one of their friends (who was a massive weeb) and I was subjected to lines of lame grade school level insults, in which the worst thing in the world they could all anyone was a prep.

They had a real hard on for spelling and grammar too, in which they would always go on LJ to complain about random people's grammar, which in fact was hilarious because:

1. they really could not spell to save their life
2. their idea of a paragraph was two sentences
3. they always used to spell grammar as 'grammer'.

I had cottoned on to the fact that they loved to rant about absolutely nothing now and the troll that was resting in me was born. I winded them up at bit and the results were priceless. Now onto to the good part: They had a Marty Stu FC who was related to some character from a game , TRAGIC BACKSTORY!!11 and all. They always used to harp on to me about how mary sues are evil and were in a million rant communities (more on that later) and they second someone would say that their OC had mary sue traits they would go ape and threaten to kill themselves. Also if you blocked them, they would flood your inbox with many pity stories to get you to unblock them (but always bragged about blocking people)

Eventully, it just got so sad so I just moved e-mail addresses and never heard from them again. Years later, I discover their LJ username and found many entries ranting about me and some other people, the funniest thing that they ranted about me ranting but their bullshit got so much for one community that they introduced a new rule just to get them to stop posting. The kicker? They were in their 20's at the time.

(Mods: Sorry if this is long, not too used to forums after so much time away from them ahahahaha)

I've tried giving my own share of advice, but... In the end, it's just a waste. So now I just point and laugh or facepalm at their stupidity. I've had this one girl go all emo, trying to make me feel sorry for her so that I would take back my review. She acted like she appreciated the critique then did a 180 and bitched me out, all but calling me worse than Hitler for daring to say that her work is anything but perfect.
She was even one of those who claim they want critique when really they just want you to be an asspatter. After that, she said she doesn't want critiques.
Calling a critic worst than Hitler? These authors sure do think their work is like Shakespeare, don't they? I can only imagine how they'd react to their English teacher when said teacher tells them their writing is terrible. Critiques are important in helping develop a better writing skill but of course, these authors won't have any of that. They just want their Mary Sue OC's to be oh-so perfect, beating up those they don't like and sleeping with their own Chad Thundercock.

If I recall correctly, some of his fics were taken down due to plagiarism. I do wonder if he calls his critics worst than Hitler just because they point out how bad they are. With that said, these fics would be painful to read, right?

Fanfiction.net would be so much better if it had a no Mary Sue rule. Look, I can understand fantasizing about yourself in your favorite movie or book or whatever. I'm sure all of us have done/do this, right? The difference is that we know that it's a personal fantasy and it's not going to make a good story for other people to read.

They'd lose all their traffic and the site would fold in hours.

That would make a whole lot of sense. By making that rule, the authors wouldn't be able to post their Mary Sue stories and FF would shut down. Not to mention, there wouldn't be any terrible gems to gaze upon for a sporking.

This is my story, I don't think I've made any Mary Sues. I am also 30 years old, and still write, ad I was wondering if that makes me as bad as the Mary Sue authors?

But what I really hate is when you get authors say they wnt critique and then once you do, they tell you, you are being spiteful and horrible. Sending you PM's and telling you if you didn't like it, don't read it, but how are you meant to know that if you don't read. Also how is an author meant to grow if they can't take a little critiquing, and they just want the reviews to be the getting praised all the time?

Sorry if this sounds rude.

The real kicker is when they are still going to be doing this when they are 30.
they are over 30 now and last time i peeked at one of their profiles they seemed to calm down a lot. then again i cannot tell much on a roleplay site so maybe somewhere else they are doing it but eh

I started writing on ff.net when I was just a kid, and I'm still there, albeit under a different name than I had originally. I'm a big fan of fanfic in theory, because as a previous poster also said, it helped me discover how much I loved writing. If you approach it with the right spirit, it's excellent practice for a budding writer: coming up with new stories, but involving premade worlds and characters. And I have to say, I've read some really excellent fics over the years.

But yeah, there's a lot of dreck. And when I say "a lot of," I mean "at least 90% of all stories are." And there's really no way to screen for Mary Sues; you could put up a rule about it, but people would just ignore it, and the only way to enforce the rule would be to employ thousands and thousands of beta readers to scan every single fic. Not gonna happen.

Well, Neil Gaiman has written fanfic, and this is what he says about it: “I’m not sure where the line gets drawn — you could say that any Batman fan writing a Batman comic is writing fan fiction. As long as nobody’s making money from it that should be an author or creator’s, I don’t mind it. And I think it does a lot of good.”

I have a....complicated relationship with fanfics. On the other hand, Mary Sues annoy the shit out of me, but I also met some good friends through a fanfic, met up with them which gave me the confidence to find a better job and cut off my relationships to some nasty people in my life and with the extra money, I was able to go out and socialize more which led to things really getting better for me.

In short, a fanfic helped me get china.

Ladies and gentlemen. Boys and girls. Dudes of all teenages.

I present. Sonic high school by DarkDoomFireMaster

An excerpt from chapter 7, entitled "Teenage Women"

And further down the ride, we have chapter 13.

And finally.

So as you may have gathered by the above text, Sonic high school by DarkDoomFireMaster is a strange examination into the mind of a pre-teen boy. Seriously, this is only one tenths of the craziness that goes on in the fanfiction. I highly recommend this fanfiction for anyone looking for a good laugh.

Aw shucks, Fanfiction. I ain't gonna lie, I had a account on there since 2010 before leaving around late 2011. Sure, there were some decent people and stories on there I met but fuck me, there were tons of Mary Sues I came across, and it was annoying.
