One of my friends got me into Arc raiders. I hate the aesthetic and i fully understand that im old now and not as good at pvp as i used to be, but i like that you can run away from many fights pretty easily.
I like that theres no hit markers or nametags above players and that the only way to confirm that you killed someone is to see it yourself.
Also i like how the robots will often show up and kill everyone involved of you aren’t careful about when and where you start the gunfight.
In general the pvp is slower paced than other games where i die within seconds from some child a mile away.
Also platinum on protondb so i have to support it.

Should I emulate the N64 or emulate the XBLA version?
No experience with the XBLA arcade version myself which I'm sure is fine and also has some extra stuff to my knowledge, I used to fire up the N64 myself until the last time I played it where I just emulated due to not wanting to hook up the N64 at the time.

Banjo-Tooie is my personal favorite collect-a-thon because it's a one of a kind big puzzle, with lots of the levels being interconnected making them somewhat complex to fully explore. There is no other game really like it, but this does mean you're never going to be able to fully complete a level on the first visit because you'll either need a move from a later level or access a part of it that can only be gotten to by a later level. It takes quite a bit more effort to 100% over Banjo-Kazooie. Figured I'd at least be a little more descriptive of why it has mixed views, even if I do genuinely hate the stupid trend of people shitting on it and putting people off of even trying it because they'll moan endlessly about backtracking.

State of Play Japan is on right now.

Interesting games coming out...big horror angle it seems. They're showing Fatal Frame 2 remake rn.

I got this game as a free download and since I've been seeing some positive stuff about it I decided to give it a try. It strikes me as the kind of game you need a group of people to play with to enjoy. I didn't know what an "extraction shooter" was before downloading it and the brief tutorial doesn't do much to explain things.

Maybe I have videogame fatigue but I feel like you should be able to pick up a game and start having fun right away. Now I have to research on my own time, what the fuck is the objective of an "extraction shooter" and how do I play it solo to even begin getting enjoyment out of this game. The barrier to entry for these games just seems so high as someone who hasn't stuck with the hobby for the past 10 years. Feels more like a chore than an escape to me.

Anyways I'm sure it's plenty fun if you have friends that play it. Every now and then I get this wakeup call that I'm just too old to enjoy modern games and this was one of them for me.

Which is ironic considering the barrier of entry for single player games lowered to the point where the dumbest of casuals could win without much prior knowledge to playing games.

I'm with you though, friend. Online games cannot be enjoyed solo anymore and there's too much junk and not enough gameplay going on. Strafing about in unreal is great, having a shopping list of autism for wincons is bald. Every online shooter feels like you need more prep than a raid in WoW.

Recently my brother and his wife were visiting and she suggested I play Coral Island which I kind wrote off based on how it looked before, but I realized I'd wondered for a long time how people could play other farm sims after Stardew Valley pretty much did everything the best as far as I am concerned and she said she liked it more than Stardew Valley so I gave it a try...

Oh boy. My first impressions were correct, this is the single most pozzed game I've ever played since I usually have no reason to play a pozzed game. The reason I initially wrote it off is it's horrific, generic cookie-cutter 3D graphics that cannot compete at all with Stardew's style which still put me off greatly but are FAR from the worst thing now that I know more. The characters in this game... are like a fucking parody a right-winger would make. 80% of the cast is some shade of brown, they're like 50% gay (excluding player sexuality, dunno how that works), they/thems abound, all the disabilities.

Looking at the marriage candidates if you wanna play a straight male you've got: Several generic brown girls too boring to describe individually, the funniest right-wing parody adjacent black girl who is tryin' to be an astronaut n sheit who looks exactly like you'd expect, safe horny brown muscle mommy who is so safe horny she's ugly, hijab muslim, a cute white girl... who has extreme stretch marks because she divorced after she gave birth to an interracial brown child, green-haired + tatto'd + nose ring asian from doctors without borders (cute, but whoa red flags).

That's more than half the candidates a straight no off the base leaving: cute nerdy asian, cute light brown baker, white twin sister of divorced brown'd mother, snooty white rich girl. There are also some like pacific-islander looking... mermaids, but they apparently come later in the game (spoiler: I'll never get that far). Despite having way more options than Stardew Valley you really have less because so many are just straight lol-nos. I guess you could just date the they/them pajeet man instead!

I really didn't get far because all these horrendous characters just put me off quicky - I don't wanna be friends with any of these people. The game is just the classic Stardew rip-off that takes pretty much all it's systems almost exactly... but they also ripped off Animal Crossing's museum and added bug catching to accomodte, ooh-la-la! I got far enough where the Stardew Valley story rip-off comes into play where instead of the Joja store movine into the town an oil drilling company called Pufferfish does and all the islanders instantly band together to protest!

The branch manager Karen (Haha, get it? Karen?! I see what they did there, HAHA!) comes out and offends the locals by explaining their company. It was at this point when it hit me... wait, in Stardew you can side with Joja... can I join the oil company? They ripped off everything else, right? Sadly... no, you cannot. I was actually getting kind of interested in playing when I thought that would be the case, but sadly all my desire left me when I found you could not. Hell, I wanna join them... crap man, I'd marry Karen over most of the real canidates. I want a CEO waifu written to be demonized by browns! Man, I guess Papa Smurf will never get to marry a polluting queen...

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my character is Papa Smurf. His pronouns are Smurf/Smurf. Sadly the clothing options are so limited I coudn't even get a red beanie or even red pants right away to complete the ensamble.

I didnt play tarkov or Hunt Showdown but this is similar to a lot of those new indie games in that they can all be reduced to “collect things and dont lose it”. Its like going to a Walmart on the bad side of town, you go in, grab what you can, and leave when you feel you have enough. If you get killed by locals you lose everything you brought in (ie. your wallet and gun), but a lot of people will leave you alone.
Sea of Thieves also fits into this “collect things and dont lose it” category, but i find it interesting how the PvP has differed between SoT and Arc.
For example in SoT, PvP is a fact of life and some asshole is going to see you fresh spawn on your ship and spend 8 hours trying to sink you. This is because PvE is piss easy and boring so the only challenge is derived from other players. Arc’s design philosophy is to make PvE equally or more fun and challenging than PvP. The result is that i can join a lobby solo and hit someone with the “Don’t shoot” emote and theres about a 50% chance they team up with me or my group. Its actually less likely that people are outright looking to fight because either they’re using a free loadout that does jack shit to people or they understand the risk that they will lose the good guns they brought in. Plus there’s no win case for killing everyone and there’s no guarantee you have anything good for them to take.
This formula is heavily reliant on players talking to each other and working with a team but tbh all the best multiplayer games are.

Had to uninstall XCOM 2. Game is just too frustrating for me. As much as I like the gameplay loop it's so punishing I found myself not having any fun 4 hours or so in. I'm just real bad, I guess.

im back to playing inscryption again

managed to beat leshy legit (as opposed to using wemod to cheat leshy out of winning) with an unkillable skink that could be resummoned into battle because it had corpse eater on it, so every time it died it just came back to the board
felt good winning against that bastard

What games are you playing? Me, with how many games are in my library I havent even played yet that I want to get to, if a game doesnt get good in 5 hours or less then I uninstall and move on.
Mostly old team-based shooters. I wanted to play MISERY but it got copyright struck. I dunno, are there STALKER-type games set in the US?

Not particularly what you asked for, but have you ever played Kenshi? Everyone i've recommended it to got absolutely addicted once they got the hang of it.
Same for Balatro.
I played Kenshi long, long ago. Great game, but I had my fun with it. Isn't the dev working on Kenshi 2?

Touch grass or find actual games you enjoy.
Unironically, most of the time if you're struggling to enjoy games it's because your dopamine receptors are fried or you just play so much and nothing else that your brain craves a different stimulus.

Read the Kenshi thread or check /keng/.
Then realize you no longer want a Kenshi 2 because it's still the "modern era" and Kenshi is probably not safe.
Fallout Anomaly
Yeah that's one, there's another one that was in beta but they straight up just abandoned it and don't want to rehost a wabbajack file. That being said, I'm more of a FROST fan myself, Fallout 4 can't really be saved unless it's all throw into the trash like what FROST mostly does.
