Yandex has the best image search currently available by far. I'm talking pre obama accuracy.

Bing has excellent video search.

For normal text based searches I honestly don't know. I go from brave to google.

For youtube I open newpipe on my phone and look there.

i avoid signing into youtube on non computer youtube things because i know what channels i want to watch, but youtube is increasingly hostile to using it this way as it will cut access for an indeterminate period stating "sign in to confirm youre not a bot"

"This helps protect our community."

What the hell is it with that fixation on "verification" on the Clown World honknet anyway? Endless "age verification" this, "Cloudflare" "prove that you are human" that ...
Hosting fees and advertisement revenue. Bots consume the same amount of resources, but obviously won’t click ads. Having a lot of bots therefore means you pay more for hosting, and earn less from your ads.

they hate vpn users and privacy features because that makes it harder to steal your data

oh come on, nobody clicks ads
even the people who are too dumb to install adblock dont click ads

Advertising companies seem to think people do.
I first started playing EVE Online after seeing an ad for it, a long, long time ago. I didn’t actually click the ad, I googled it because a spaceship MMO sounded like fun, and then I discovered it was pretty much the perfect game for me for very different reasons, but I digress.

Yandex image search seems to have gotten better. Dunno if as good as before broken, but still seems better than when it was derped up.

(it can still only show that list of things the image appears to have in Russian though)

>be ToroidalBoat
>search for that Simpsons quote about setting the oven to cold
>the LLM "AI" "answers" butts in with "herp derp no you can't set an oven to cold"

Piss off. Now I gotta put "-ai" in just about every search now, which can make the results (even) less accurate.

Yandex image search seems to have gotten better.
And it's back to being derped again. Silly me, hoping that enshittification ever really reverses.

The most absurd case of this is Outlook. You can literally search for the exact mail title in quotation marks and not see it. Copilot is being integrated into Outlook so you can ask a gpt to summarize a bunch of your emails and suggest a meeting at the best time with AI features and all that shit.

Nigga do we need an AI to find an email?

>be me
>want to look up a transcript of something
>LLM "AI" "answers" butts in
>re-enter search with "-ai"
>only relevant result seen is a PDF link
>open link
>"hold down on this button for 3 seconds to prove that you are human after [something] seconds"
>what is this bullshit
>it doesn't work and some other BS tab is opened
>close tabs with some choice words
>search again with "-ai -PDF"
>"related" results are not anywhere near what I'm looking for
>oh wait what's this
>see what looks like a relevant link
>it's just the video with no transcript

I think I've mentioned before how ass the internet of Current Year is getting.

no, there is simply more information now and you have to work harder to find what you want.
I'm gonna have to call bullshit on that. I can put in the exact quote of something I'm searching for and only get "related" results. Or that stupid-looking ice-fishing yeti. Before searching really went to crap in recent years, it would never happen if I put something in quotes and it was online somewhere. It's not "more info", it's crap search.

Another example of search going ass: there is an online dithering site at Canvas Dither which used to turn up in search engines (which is how I found it). But now, if I do a search for a combination of "gingerbeardman", "Atkinson dithering", or "online dithering"... it seems I can not find it on at least Google or Yandex. Good thing I bookmarked the page, otherwise it'd have been a lot of frustration trying to find it again. Also, why the hell are parts of searches automatically omitted on Google? Yet more bullshit.

Yandex now has an LLM "assistant" that butts in. I told it to piss off, and it replied with:

I can't answer this request. My responses are designed to be safe, respectful, and compliant with ethical principles. You may ask another question.
(also adding "-ai" after a search blocks the LLM over there)
