Mass Effect Andromeda: Shitstorm Edition - RIP Biowear

Apparently, characters need to be protected from being attractive. Nevermind the fact that games are supposed to be a fantasy, or that a character needs to be characterized by their personality and actions anyway.

It's almost like people actually want to watch good looking people, which is why movie stars are good looking. Who the fuck wants to pay AAA game prices to look at a bunch of ugly fat fucks with danger hair?

I'm honestly imagining some sort of a Handicapper General at Bioware who goes from studio to studio examining character models and if the model is too attractive, starts randomly yanking mesh vertices to make them hideous.

What doesn't make sense is; if this is their developer policy for creating characters, why did they choose models for the main characters in Andromeda? And if so, then why did the Male model turn out fine and the Female model in Inquisition and Andromeda just happens to turn into a known Tumblr cosplayer? It's almost as if someone at Bioware has a bunch of waifus he wants to put into the game, but needs a good excuse to do so.

People don't want flaws. They want attractive characters they can fap to. Sera looks like she was shat out of a goblin's asshole.

Bioware's learned the hard way that intentionally making female characters ugly to appease obese screeching dangerhairs who don't play video games was a big mistake.

I'd imagine that this is unofficial policy and not something set in stone. The why it happens is, if I'm being generous, is probably to appeal to a new market. If I'm not being nice, it's probably that uber liberal Montreal has let out its first batch of SJWs from college.

It seems there were two major failures at work here. One was farming out the facial animation and doing a slapdash job of it, leading to the extremely autistic looking characters. That would have generated a lot of laughter by itself. Then there was the additional move of actually deliberately making them ugly for some fuck-stupid reason to appease SJWs.

My understanding of the face thing is that they used raw facial scan data to build the meshes, then did no clean up or fine tuning. A realistic facial expression in a video game is a garbage barge full of work and whoever made Andromeda tried to skip as much of that work as possible.

Stores near me have had trouble selling it. I think they anticipated it to sell out instantly because it just sat on the shelves, then another shipment came right in for both consoles and had to be put in empty slots on the discount rack. There's full shelves of both normal and special edition and nobody buying either. Though now they announced a 2-day-only price drop. Doesn't seem like anyone cared. I'm still just waiting to pick it up used for like $5.

When it comes to Mass Effect you'd be hard pressed to find a fan as autistically rabid as me. I played the first one fully through eight times, the second one fifteen times and the third one three times. Anyone who defends 3's ending was someone easily impressed because it's shit, we all know that.

So then they announced Mass Effect Andromeda and I told myself not to get it, that it wouldn't be worth it, remember how 3's ending sucked so much it ruined a game series you were infatuated with. But I went against my own warnings and bought it on an impulse. I pretty much played straight through, as I tend to do on the first playthrough, and found it to almost feel like it was just DA Inquisition with a sci-fi skin. The obvious shit is obvious; the human models are the worst looking in the game and even the alien species look like they just went through a randomizer. I hated the game and didn't touch it for awhile after that, almost taking it back in.

A few weeks later, aka after they fixed chimp face girl, I decided to go back and give it a second chance. My first playthrough I had chose soldier and only soldier, ending up with a very limited character who seemed weak and to easy a target. My second, however, I went with the far superior vanguard and found that the was suddenly that much more engaging. Vanguard was always my favorite and this class was strongly augmented by dipping into the other profiles. At first I hated the profile system thinking it took away from creating a unique character but in the end it pretty much let's you create superpowered death machines.

The second playthrough was my,do everything playthrough; all quests that had actually way points associated with them, all friend quests, everything that wasn't finding little objects that involved searching all nooks and crannies; I found myself suddenly immersed in the game as the story suddenly got a whole lot bigger.

That being said there's still a lot of shit that doesn't need to be there and its,all too evident this game was rushed. This won't stop a sequel, though, it'll just make the next entry the make or break game. Mass Effect can be better than this. Mass effect needs to be better than this.

are biotic powers still superior to everything like they were in ME3 single player?

Well removing soldiers Adrenalin Rush didn't help. Being able to slow time and do increased damage was what made soldier great.
But yeah, you can combo like crazy now; biotic rush and smash combo is back and it's devastating.
