Rowling Derangement Syndrome - "TERF/Woke Author Bad!!1"

Amusing salt/cope from Bluesky. Can't stop talking about it, can't stop telling everyone to stop talking about it.

As promised last night, here are the screenshots I grabbed from the mass seething and dilating that's happening on Xitter in response to the Hogwarts Legacy announcement by Epic Games. I've conveniently organized them into categories for your perusal, according to the stages of grief exhibited by our subjects. Please enjoy.

As we all know, the first stage of grief is denial. We begin our journey into the sneediverse with a wave of troons claiming not to care about Hogwarts Legacy, insisting that the game will have zero downloads and that TGA must have been personally paid to promote the game by She Who Must Not Be Named.
xitter1.pngxitter10.pngxitter12.pngxitter29.pngxitter14.pngxitter16.pngxitter19.pngxitter22.pngxitter34.pngxitter37.pngxitter46.pngxitter49.png
Next up are archetypal rage posts, representing the mass hysteria (testeria?) that resulted from the announcement. You have all the classics here, from generic "fuck JK Rowling" posts to mold conspiracy references and at least one Nazi comparison, or (my personal favorite) "JK Rowling supports the Taliban." I've included profile pictures and screenshots where relevant, so you can get a feel for how physically attractive and mentally stable everyone here is.
xitter9.pngxitter13.pngxitter15.pngxitter18.pngxitter21.pngxitter32.pngxitter33.pngxitter36.pngxitter7.pngxitter17.pngxitter28.pngxitter30.pngxitter42.pngxitter5.pngxitter27.pngxitter23.pngxitter24.pngxitter25.pngxitter26.pngxitter47.pngxitter48.pngxitter20.png
For our third category, bargaining, we have trannies and allies coping that downloading the game for free isn't giving money to Queen TERF and may actually be hurting her financially.
xitter3.pngxitter4.pngxitter31.pngxitter35.pngxitter11.png
Next to last, we have depression posts complaining of mood ruination, chiding potential HP consumers, and lamenting the fact that Epic have chosen to financially support Wizard Lady as she actively funds trans genocide. I would personally call the latter statement optimistic, but clearly it's not intended in that sense.
xitter8.pngxitter38.pngxitter41.pngxitter43.pngxitter39.pngxitter40.png
And, finally, our last and smallest category: acceptance.
xitter2.png
And as a digestif after that doozy of a five-parter, here's some bonus Fortnite-related troonacy.

HP's world building was incredibly shallow. Like, really really shallow. It's not really her fault and we can't judge it by today's higher standards. I think in general a diverse cast of characters is better because it's more relatable to people and that transfers into more profit.
To be fair. The books were written for 6-12 year old boys. The fact it beats out books written for far older audiences like 50 shades of bdsm and the sparkly gay vampire pedo furfag saga says a lot. It's no Lord of The Rings or Call of Cthulhu mind you. But those books were written for adults. Also more to the point, they're ultimately Mystery Novels like the Hardy Boys, Sherlock Holmes, Lemony Snickets, or Nancy Drew. A lot of them ultimately focus more on the mystery than worldbuilding because that's what they're about. It's why Harry and the gang always have to gather clues and solve riddles even to defeat Voldemort in the finale, they're primarily just gathering objects and finding what to do with said objects. Like yeah, the book written for literal kindergarten students which is primarily a mystery novel series focuses more on the mystery of the day and less on the world and characters in it. The fact is, compared to other genre staples, it's one of the better at worldbuilding.

"I paid $70 for this and now it's free???" and that's your karma for directly giving money to a transphobic cunt who spent that money and used her political influence to make the UK a worse place for trans people to live in. you should be ashamed of yourself.
Is anyone actually upset that they paid money for the game and almost 3 years later it was given away for free?

It's mostly people who got it yesterday or last week who are joking about having shitty luck because they bought it right before it became free. Seems like the game continues to sell decent numbers even three years later.

Yeah it's got 34 million sales, only 4 million of those are this year, but that's still pretty good for a single player game.

Going there and it's like, 4 people and one moderator. Going through the post history of the people in there tells me all I need to know about these people. Very performative and just bring up politics to take a moral high ground because of a children's book series. These are grown women mostly.

Making an update to this. That AntifascistKnitting Subreddit that those redditors from r/Knitting made over the Harry Potter Sweater is (unsurprisingly) dead. But thought I'd share one of the posts I saw before it really teetered off.

“Hogwarts Legacy was always bad actually” is such a transparent cope. People are sick of trannies, but not sick enough to make a terrible game a $2 billon bestseller purely to watch them seethe.

I recently started replaying it again to do a completionist run on the highest difficulty and I still find it satisfying and fun. I feel sorry for the losers who didn’t allow themselves to try it. I’m looking forward to the inevitable sequel

There's plenty of mechanics and other things that could be improved in a sequel, but it's an above average ubisoft open world game at worst. Trying to present it as "the worst thing ever" is so transparently pathetic.

Was doing my usual tranny Reddit hunt and found a great example of RDS in the wild.

From the console to the PC, Hogwarts Legacy will be free: a tranny's wife of 26 years has committed the unthinkable by downloading Hogwarts Legacy off of Epic Games due to its current promotional event even after they'd discussed not partaking in any Rowligian creative endeavors. Obviously he's pissed his britches over it because it's just like giving Hitler the ol' rusty trombone, but he still needs validation to feel justified in his whining.

Am I overreacting?

My wife decided to accept the "free" game of the week for Harry Potter from Epic Games.
I am incredibly pissed off, because it is not free. Epic still has to pay the terf bitch for those rights. Also, it signals to the bigot that people will still buy her IP no matter how she acts.
All this because my wife really, really wanted to play it. Some ally. Some spouse.
To add: we had previously discussed not getting this game. I shared it would make me feel very uncomfortable. She agreed to not get it.
[–]PunchyThePastry
Did she agree not to get it, or did she agree not to buy it? Sure, you're considering how Epic's money is going to JK, but did she? Or did she just think that since she isn't paying anything, she isn't funding anything? Given your language in this post, yes, you are overreacting. She downloaded a free game and you're taking it as a personal betrayal.

We agreed to not partake in that IP. There were no discussions about purchasing or free offerings. No involvement in that IP period.

[–]nae0_
claiming it for free isnt going to give jk any money. EPIC probably already paid her so they could make it free. She should have been honest from the beginning about wanting to get it, but I dont think she is materially supporting any anti-lgbt causes by claiming the game on her account. tell her to play it in your absence or something

EPIC probably already paid
Because the IP continues to make money because people continue to engage with it because people keep making excuses why it's ok to engage with it.
Stop. Engaging. With. Harry. Potter.
This. The agree not to pursue this IP between us because of this very reason. There were no discussions about free or paid, there were discussions not to support this at all.
too bad whats done is done and OP is overreacting. just say you hate your wife already
They can still have a conversation about it. Jesus.
Lots of us are extremely uncomfortable with this IP and any existence of it, for very good reason.
Like, you can both feel OP may have overreacted while also recognizing how fucked up it is for an ally to insist on engaging with this series.
But if you're not acknowledging the serious issues with continuing to engage with this IP at all, I don't even know how to have a serious conversation at that point. The woman is basically a cartoon supervillain with the sole goal of genociding trans people. And she's succeeding.
Maybe you don't know how bad it's gotten in the UK, or understand how that's propagating into the US right now, but it's fucking bad. And we need to take it more seriously.
Jesus F Christ? I can be mad at her and not hate her ffs.
We've been married 26 years in Jan. If I hated her I would not have been asking if I was overreacting.

[–]unknowngamer234
I personally think claiming the game for free is still terrible because it’s still an official way of getting it, meaning they can track the engagement the game gets making it clear that there is demand for shit like that meaning they will produce more of it, if anyone really wants to try it then sailing the sees is the only somewhat harmless way of doing so.

Exactly. It shows that people don't care that she is a terf.

[–]Sophia_HJ22
She betrayed you and went ahead anyways. You’re well within your rights to be offended; I would be. ( I deleted my other comment as it wasn’t appropriate compared to other comments )

[–]Acrobatic_Flamingo
I agree with you. Getting this game this way directly materially harms trans people in a way relatively few capitalist interactions do.
She's had years to pirate it.

You can dislike the artist and still appreciate their art. I understand your reaction, but I also think people should make their own choices. You shouldn't go further than gently telling them you wouldn't do that because it feels wrong to you.

Her art is literally enslaved goblins, racism against black and Asian people, and a surprising lack of queer representation. And she sends nearly 99% of her profits to paying lawyers to take rights away from trans people.
So no. There is nothing to appreciate here.
You can dislike the artist and still appreciate their art.
No, you can't. Not when the artist is still alive and uses any endorsement of her franchise as people agreeing with her bigotry, while using the money she makes off it to actively campaign to take away our rights. Supporting HP in any way means supporting JKR's transphobia.
And that isn't even going into how problematic the "art" itself is, with all the classism, racism, antisemitism, homophobia, ableism etc.
It's a fair point. We had previously discussed this, and she said she would respect my position because it made me feel uncomfortable.
Yeah that context makes this a lot worse... Like why would she say she respected the position then go against it?
Yeah. Should have put that in my original post.
Sigh. Dunno. Just dunno.

[–]Grimesy2
I don't know if this helps or not. But for additional context, it was revealed due to documents in a lawsuit from Apple, that the way Epic's free games work, is they give the developer a flat fee, and in exchange, are able to give away access to the game for a certain period of time.
https://www.polygon.com/22417954/epic-games-store-free-games-cost-epic-paid-publishers-developers/#:~:text=That%20worked%20out%20to%20a,it%20did%20in%20May%202020.
Meaning that your wife claiming a copy had 0 financial impact whatsoever on the Harry Potter franchise, WB, Rowling, or Rowling's political crusade against us.
Now, it seems like you may feel that your wife having an interest in the HP franchise at all is tantamount to a personal betrayal.
I personally disagree with you, but if that's what you've expressed to your wife, it's worth having a conversation with her about.
Either 1. She decided to betray you, knowing it would make you feel like she was a "bad ally and spouse."
Or 2. She saw the opportunity to claim a free game, a game she had previously chosen not to buy because of how much she cares about you, and didn't think that action was harmful.
Which do you think is more likely?
If the answer is 1, then go off. But if the answer is 2, then yeah, it may be the minority opinion here, but I do think you're overreacting.

Or, option 3 - we agreed we would not support the franchise in anyway. I find material connected to JK to be offensive and she agreed to not pursue the game. There was no discussion about purchase or free, there was a discussion about now supporting that IP in anyway.

There's a whole lot of "we" when he means "I" in there, isn't there?

"I am going deep in denial; I will need you to deny the reality right in front of your eyes and defend my insanity constantly from this moment forward, plus accept potentially spending many thousands of dollars on ridiculous shit like breast implants. If you do not do this I will leave you and bad mouth you to everyone."

"Okay. I would like to be allowed to play a game where I pretend to be a wizard."

"YOU HORRIBLE BITCH WHY DO YOU NEVER THINK OF ME YOU'RE A HORRIBLE WIFE!"

The biggest actual criticism I ever heard for Hogwarts Legacy was that it got repetitive, but that's every RPG at some point right?

I have also heard a lot of gnashing of teeth in my personal gaming sphere about this and it's interesting how there is so much energy to call Rowling a bitch and a cunt (very creative!) from people who I KNOW are dropping 20+ hours a week into Bobby Kotick's Activision games. Sex assault, milk mommy theft, those are whatever. Woman has opinion?? Burn the witch.

Best part is that now she has an easy way to annoy him by just playing the game on max volume.
