Greggs marines?
Always wondered how that colour scheme would look.
It'll never end. If Tau are still hated for being the "new" faction that "don't belong in 40k" nearly 25 years later, I'm guessing we'll be hearing complaints about Primaris until the next scale change.Irs been 8 years. When are people going to get over primaris marines. At this point Id rather read an entire series about Negro the Ultranigger than listen to people bitching about a change they made a decade ago.
The factions chosen are a bit shit tbh. But then I don't know who would be better. Nids? Tau? Chaos? Genestealer cults? The faction would best be sufficiently hordey to make up the scale without oversaturating other games. So they finally are making a Total Warhammer 40K.... I wanna be excited but I am not.
(was going to post this later, but might as well since I'm replying)
I think I've come to the conclusion I don't like Sisters of Battle. I just like Sisters of Battle.
I like Sisters of Battle (the unit) and the warsuit. I don't care for the cherubs, the named characters, or the penitent engines. Basically all the masocist stuff I don't like.
While I like the lore, I'm also tempted to make "my guys" (gals?) a bit more sensible, which goes against what the faction is about.
When it comes to marine lore. I like the "friendly" chapters. If you like space marines as psychotic giga fascists that eat orphans, you do you. But the popularity of Titus and the raptors shows that I'm not alone in the idea of liking marines that are sane.
I get that sisters are zealots, but them burning cities full of innocents to the ground because one guy went thirty seconds without praising the emperor to be a tad extreme. Supposedly if they save a world from xenos invasion, they kill everybody for failing the emperor by allowing themselves to be conquered. But I'd headcanon my order to be sane than that. Actually trying to save people, actually trying to protect relics and holy sites. On the plus side, my friend being a space wolves player, killing the mutant gives perfect motivation.
Their combat patrol seems fine, though I don't like the whip guy models, so might proxy them out. Not sure.
I looked into xenos factions and I'm still torn on them. No rush to buy anything so I've got time.
My first choice of Tau are still hated it seems, and the combined races thing is gone, so no human helpers. Vespid are still around, I heard a while ago they were retconned away. I could also build a guard army and theme them as tau and hope rules come back. It's a shame because, in theory, it should be possible to 3d print tau bits for them, or borrow from third parties.
But, if I'm sticking with combat patrol, I don't mind the current box, so could be an option.
As for others hating them, one of the reasons I rage quit the hobby years ago was because no one would play. Their excuse was that I played Tau.
Genestealer cults are not my thing gameplay wise, but they can supposedly bring guard stuff, so that's nice.
Vottan. The main criticisms I hear of these guys is a small range, expensive models, and people don't like the design. Most of those don't bother me. Collecting them being expensive is unfortunate, but if I'm getting just a combat patrol, or at most 1000 points, I doubt I'll be spamming land fortress or whatever kit people say is overpriced. I don't mind the space suit look. And as long as the range has the basics, I'm fine with that.
I don't know the lore about them. Just that they're led by an AI that takes an age to answer questions. And the imperium wants to kill them to steal their tech templates.
Orks. I don't like their combat patrols or their 10th edition look. If it's true they're getting a big refresh in 11, I'll reconsider them. I could also proxy the fuck out of them with Oathmark kits.
Necrons. These are growing on me. Their combat patrol looks great, and I like some of their models. My main concern is actually a gameplay one. Tough things that resurect tend to be a feels-bad army to play against.
Dark Mech. I know basically nothing about these guys. The other big army predicted to get a "refresh"/introduction in 11th. So if my friend takes too long getting his combat patrol together, these could be a viable option.
So seriously considering Sisters, Tau, Vottan, Necrons. With Dark Mech as possible options. Got to finish my knights and my friend has to get his marines and terrain painted.
