If you want to work with code but aren't willing to constantly be learning and adapting then you don't want to work with code.

You don't have to be a genius to code, you just have to be willing to put in the time. People like this don't do hard work, physical or mental. Therefore I don't see why this person ever thought they could have a future coding.

This dude never planned on coding anything, just fucking up projects with social justice bullshit while contributing nothing of any value.

Good lord.

I think Coraline, unlike Briana Wu for example, is probably a decent enough developer. Coraline seems to have the requisite skills to make it through a technical interview, but has most likely has lost interest in the day to day grind, and is really far too toxic of a personality to make the normal accent to leadership or management roles and is too alienating and repulsive to go into a sales or evangelism role due to a tendency to inject identity politics into absolutely everything. Even somewhere like GitHub, where things like public recognition of actual merit have been tossed out the window, technical delivery roles tend to be fairly results oriented.

Agreed. Coraline seems to me to be an example of a programmer who became a troon, rather than a troon who became a programmer. So he's got his existing talents, but programming is no longer as exciting as it used to be, especially when there's alleged oppression afoot.

It's funny, when I hear about a notable woman programmer (which doesn't happen often, but once in awhile it does), there's like a 50/50 chance they're actually a troon.

The suicide attempt makes this look delusional at best, but nobody said lucidity was the prerequisite for a mid-life crisis.

Guess that job offer didn't come through.
Why are all the people who "liked" this critique white kids going to expensive art schools? Yes, really.

Programming is very much a use-it-or-lose-it skill. If you dick around doing something completely orthogonal to that, you not only fall out of practice but have the added burden of catching up on anything you missed.

That's rarely the case. Programmers have mostly been reinventing the wheel over and over for decades. A programmer who was talented 20 years ago can trivially pick up whatever trendy stuff programmers are doing now. The fundamentals of programming don't change very quickly.

When it comes to Coraline, the big question is how talented he was to begin with. A naive way to establish talent is if someone has a degree in Comp Sci from a decent college.

If he doesn't have a degree, then things get more complicated and you'd have to dig through his work to get a better idea.

Meritocracy is what is keeping tech companies competitive.

Hiring mentally ill diversity candidates would kill that. Maybe "git gud" and take your medications Caroline.
The argument is that without having a lesbian, a cripple, a ghetto trans prostitute and an genderfluid otherkin you're destined to create a product that would not cover the needs of otherkins, troons and DS specials. So you'll be creating products for evil white men, double plus ungood.

Shit working is actually important when you're doing shit like designing air traffic control systems, GPS systems, shit where if your code crashes, vehicles crash and people die. If that lesbian cripple troon can get that done, great, get on board. Otherwise get the fuck out.

To be fair, I'd say ~10% of developers are working on critical infrastructure shit, financial systems and other things that matter. The rest make startup consumer hipster crap so the "diverse perspective" crap may have some merit to it. Having freeloaders on your team to cover extra 10% of the market that has no money - not so much.

Give that shit to troons, I suppose. We can deal with that level of incompetence.

This is why I'm not surprised that the only programming language to ever kill people is called Ada

Nah, the government relaxes that requirement a long time ago.
Now you can kill people for the government in every language.

No, I mean, there was an actual bug in the Ada runtime that caused a perfectly fine program to crash, crashing an airplane and killing like two people if I recall correctly.
