Eliezer Schlomo Yudkowsky / LessWrong

For some reason, the topic or motif of dragons is a prime indicator of heavy-duty autism.

Dragons are attractive to complete and utter dorks because

1. They look cool

2. The whole thing of being wiser and more powerful than normies humans

This is also why furries with dragon fursonas tend to be the cringiest

So this is where all those "Methods of Rationality" quotes on TvTropes came from. I tend to gloss over fanfic shit, who knew I could have been mining lolcow material?

I read this whole thread and wow, what a journey.

There's plenty of utterly exceptional fan fiction on TV Tropes.

Neo Nazi Mass Effect fan fiction.

Fan fiction of another MLP fan fiction longer than War and Peace.

Wew lad, Project Horizons...

I know a bit about it due to being involved with a community that mocked it. It's really, really fucking terribly written and cringey. The protagonist is intended to come across as dark and troubled but ends up a super-angsty wreck who does awful things and then feels bad about it, and this repeats.

The main villain dies and then the story goes on for a long-ass while just meandering. It's horribly paced and several chapters are just fucking nothing.

It's source material is also hilariously awful and its author,Kkat is legit lolcow potential.

I made a lolcow thread on the author, David Bushey, a while ago. It hasn't gone very far, though.

I agree, but few fanfics get put on so many quote pages. Most quotes tend to be one sentence, maybe a few if it's one of those "Particular kind of speech" tropes. But anytime Methods of Rationality gets quoted, fucking PARAGRAPHS of text. Actually, I take that back, most fanfics that get on the quote pages get paragraphs of text, because novice writers seem to confuse length and incomprehensibility with good writing.

Sometimes, long, lengthy descriptions are good-if it's, say, sci-fi and you want to describe the awesome tech or sweet gun the character has, or if it's one of those steamy romance novels and you go into loving detail about the character's clothing. Spending an entire paragraph to say "the curtains were blue" is not a good thing.

I've never read HPATMOR, but it sounds like it's just badly written rather than being utterly pathetic like the brony stories. The real humour is in Yudkowsky's cult rather than his story.

One of Yudkowsky's acolytes, Iceman, has actually written MLP fanfic.

Like the Fallout Equestria stuff, it's turned into a verse with people writing fanfics of the fanfic.

If you just told me the name, I would assume it's a fic where the ponies are all robots and would think "well, that's kind of interesting, despite being autistic as fuck". Then you tell me it's Pony Skynet and I stop caring.

It's to push Yudkowsky's "rational" concepts. Getting rid of the human race and turning them all into virtual ponies is portrayed as a good thing and a transhuman improvement. It should come as no surprise that one of the fanfic-of-the-fanfic writers also created the Conversion Bureau.

While being able to upload our brains into computers as a means of preserving ourselves might work as the next stage of human evolution, I find it doubtful that ponies will be what everyone becomes. It's gonna be like Shadowrun where everyone's Matrix icons are different, one asshole has a pony while someone else is Vault Boy, and another person has an Apex from Starbound as their icon.

For fuck's sake, ponies can even ruin transhumanism. I swear, anybody comes to my RPG table and says their hacker uses ponies to represent themselves in the virtual world is getting beaten with the Core Book until they choose something less autistic.

I just love that their whole thing is basically taking all the fun and whimsy out of fun, whimsical things, then getting butthurt about how the normies are just not smart enough to smugly revel in the distinct glory of their genius.

Basically, it's like watching an atheist talk about how he doesn't neeeeed God, because he is in awe of the cosmos, and it fills his heart with wonder, only applied to homoerotic fanfic about the robotfuture.

You mean it's going to be like Second Life? That in and of itself comes with a whole nother host of problems.

Is that Project AFTER?

Is that Project AFTER?

The author of Project Horizons turned up in the Project AFTER thread mocking him. He admitted his work wasn't very good, then left after his fan base warned him it would be too damaging for him to see criticism of his story.

It was surprisingly subdued for a lolcow's response.
