What is the japanese perspective on lolisho content?

I have seen people debate it to hell and back, and nobody seems to agree on anything. Some people claim they are fully accepting of it, others just say they tolerate it.

To me, it seems like they despise it outside the otaku circles and don't say anything, because they don't want to cause trouble.

It really depends who you ask. I posted a video here at some point of someone asking random people "if a woman finds lolicon on her boyfriends phone should she break up with him?" most people said yes because if it's something that makes you uncomfortable you shouldn't stay with him, One woman brought up if she had kids with him she'd be afraid what he'd do to the kids, another said she thinks it's weird but not a big deal.

There was a political movement to get it banned at some point but their government wont budge on it. There are people who really see it as a free speech issue but couldn't care less about the ass backwards defamation laws in that country. But one thing they're all in agreement on —even the people that consomme it, is that people into loli/shota-con are pedophiles. They don't try & hide it or deny it there because it's just a known fact in Japan. This is a country where you could still get child porn easily decades after they made it illegal in most 1st world countries & took over a decade after to criminalize possessing it.

Years ago, I saw a poll (from 2006 or 2007) suggesting that around 80 percent of the respondents wanted drawn child pornography to be banned as well. I don't know if that has changed since the mid-2000s.

My impression, as someone who has lived there and knows the language, is that most people find it off-putting, but if some lolicon pervert is reading a loli manga on the train, nobody is going to confront him about it. Japanese society relies a lot on the principle of people self-regulating their behavior due to social pressure. This works as long as people have enough of a sense of shame. The downside is that when someone with no shame shows up, they don't want to confront that person because it's embarrassing and/or they don't know how to handle confrontation. This doesn't apply just to lolicons but to other groups of people as well.

I also think that the average Tanaka's knowledge of how pedophilia, grooming, sexualization of minors etc works is lower compared to people in some other countries and that this means they overlook some things that are clearly inappropriate in, for example, popular culture. I gave an example of a popular piece of media that portrays an inappropriate relationship between a child and an adult here (the book 流浪の月/The wandering moon).

Another example which more Westerners, or at least weebs, would be familiar with is the (non-lolicon) manga Bunny Drop, which ends with the main characters Rin and Daikichi falling in love and marrying even though Rin is Daikichi's adopted daughter and was raised by him from the age of six. The author seems to have thought it was a cute conclusion to their story but most weeb fans thought it was pure WTF. And it's not even the only or first example of a story with that kind of premise. The manga Jinbe and its drama adaptation came out years before the Bunny Drop manga did.
