VRChat - WAOW, it's the METAVERSE!!! (a growing den of pedophiles, furries, and troons that is advertised as safe for children)

I was actually looking at Etsy/other shops to see how much they cost, and it looks like they range from $30 to $300. The higher end models are made custom in Unity. It's crazy people pay for this stuff.
$300? I know a guy who makes cartoony sfw lukewarm furry models like a Charizard in a shirt and they go for $2-3k and he's charging too little for the effort and time. Same shit with bad cheap twitch vtuber models; they usually go for +$500 plus rigging and other maintenance. They make bank on the easy slop work of these 3D models.

I've been around furry artists for quite a few years and if you truly think about it, what's the fucking market? furries? porn? OCs? It has no real-life industry use. 3D skills are the same: Yea you could make $2k a week from being a premiere Second Life seller, but that's a single 3D chat you rely on. What else is there, stock assets on websites? Making a great teapot and selling it for $2 on an asset store?

Vtubing and vrchat are basically the two things carrying 3D forward.

They also like to flex full body tracking and even their PC specs, which with certain addons (I'm not sure how tbh) you can display live above your avatar in game (i.e. RTX 5090 40%).
If I remember correctly, it's done by using OSC (in combination with hardware/software polling) to abuse the text chat box and send whatever you want in there on a regular/timed basis. Like you said, they mostly use it to flex their PC specs. I've also seen people use it for Spotify, whatever their focused window is, weird inside jokes, and other stuff.

Proximity is a funny guy but weirdly refuses to misgender most trannies that he meets. I get using the correct pronouns while he's building trust with them, but calling obviously male furries in his videos "women" to appease his audience while narrating is lame. Makes me think that he has some involvement with the queer community in his personal life, but I digress.
I think it's just to preserve his YouTube channel. Otherwise a hoard of trannies will report it for misgendering "harassment" or some equally inane bullshit. Have to give these people nothing to work with, otherwise they will spend their entire jobless day trying to erase you from the Internet.

I fully get why some people are invested in VRchat. Social games are one of the few niches that VR excels at (the other being sim racing). However, I got a hunch that most users there are only playing due to sunk cost fallacy:
  • In order to create custom content, you have to install a full blown engine.
  • There are only a few built-in ways to do stuff with your avatar. You want to extend it? Use OSC. Nothing fits your bill? Code a new tool that uses OSC for your needs.
  • You want to upload your sick creation? Too bad, you need to have an old-enough account to do so.
All the hoops you have to go through in order to become the anime ensures they don't go elsewhere. They would either have to discard everything they learned (even if it becomes trivially easy to do anything), plus all of their other friends (in the same situation) would need to do the same. It's just not realistic, but on the bright side, it serves as containment for those people.

Most of VRchat's grooming issues would be alleviated if they at least raised the minimum age to 16. Less stalker children to imprison, might make the platform less enticing to chomos. Doing this however will do jack shit unless they step up moderation (which they will never do, wink wink).

Can't wait to see @Ruben Sim's next video on this topic.

This is what a lot of creators and people who exposed even the dev team behind VRChat have been trying to do, the sad reality is the investors of the company need to get a massive wave of backlash before they allow any change like this to happen because they are the ones who see the minors as profit for their brand. It's an unfortunate reality.

Ruben isn't making a video on it so his fans aren't encouraged to download it:
VRChat has so much porn and grooming I've intentionally avoided making videos in it so as not to encourage any of my fans to install it. It's the only platform I can think of with a higher concentration of child predators than Roblox.

The problem is that age verification quickly becomes a method to justify the mass policing/data scraping of your player base. I for one don't want to play a game that insists that I need to connect my government identity to the game to play, not in the sense that the players know it, but that, for example, VRChat has it.

I talked to a veteran player who has been playing VRChat for seven years now and knows most of the staff/the community manager before he became the community manager. She said that VRChat has struggled with data leaks since its inception, including leaking government IDs. Apparently the community manager is a creep and only got his position because he saved the app a while back by donating loads of money. Imagining that guy has moderation permissions because he cash-cowed and now has access to thousands of government IDs is unsettling to say the least.

This isn't to say that they shouldn't age-gate the whole thing. Most privacy sensitive people will simply choose to not play, which honestly isn't a huge concern, and the benefits definitely outweigh the negatives here. After being witness to this stuff for a while, truly the best solution is to educate parents on their children's internet behavior and encourage bad actors who involve themselves with minors "because it's the internet and it's bound to happen" to fuck off and get a life.

I'm super against IDs for age verification as of the past two years, seeing how it's been fumbled and or how insane governments are about NEEDING minors to be on the Internet to spy on us all, or something. Minors are not the majority on the Internet to begin with and should just be ban by law that their parents have to follow them from letting their children use the Internet as a whole. No devices that connect to it without their parents being in control as of holding it and looking at it, making it their at most responsibility for their children's safety rather than the sad reality of it having to be Internet strangers to come to their rescues in most cases too late or not at all.

This is the only solution I can think of to prevent a larger number of grooming and exploitation cases. I'm not a politician, nor a parent and child psychology expert and I don't know what would truly work for everyone, but a lot of parents these days suck at watching over their kids and they should know enough about the Internet now to not have the same excuses as the previous generations. All of them quite literally have Tiktok or Facebook downloaded so they should know better. Whenever I give my take it always sets someone off though. So I'm ready to watch the trashcans fly but I highly agree I'm sick of the "whatever" to the situation.

To be honest I wish to enjoy VRChat for the artistic worlds, I got to see a few of them, "Organism, Epilogs 1 & 2, and Ritual". Some of the coolest experiences I have had in that game. There is so much protentional for even creating post-animation rotoscoping with the headsets and Vive trackers. But it's all just only for the social aspect of it that so often gives it it's bad reputation because of so many bad actors. I also I just like to witness retards in the wild because cringe is a drug at this point.

What's the consensus on VR Chat? Is it hell's waiting room like Roblox or more of a circus full of unstable monkeys?
It's even worse than Roblox

It was way more usable precovid and pretty funny to go on to troll during the covid era. Most people you'll find on there stick to their own groups which all usually consist of weirdo gooners, pedophiles, furries, and erpers. I used to go on it just to peoplewatch but it's pretty unusable these days with the amount of kids and weirdo fucks with "toggle" avatars (Avatars that you can enable penises, nudity, insertion commands, cum sprays and other degen dogshit).

I'd say avoid and maybe just watch ProximityChat's videos because that is unironically what a good chunk of vrchat users are like.

It's one of the biggest sources of degen e-sex worker vtumors, including male ones pretending to be women (the most well known example) or being total creeps (notably Luca Kaneshiro and Aster Arcadia, both from Nijisanji EN).

Sorry to interrupt the news, but while doing some research related to the Splatoon GMOD thread, I stumbled upon MissBreezyKawaii, a tranny VRChat boobie streamer and someone who I think should be covered in this thread.
Late to actually saying this but this guy has a thread now:

In related news, another VRChat predator catcher known as Sileskio has uploaded the following video, where he claims to have cheated on a seemingly real life partner with a 17 year old in VRChat.

Preservetube
Related to the above, a YouTuber named TemLoh made a video on the Sileskios drama apparently getting worse? (PreserveTube, interestingly this was put on PreserveTube the same day it came out); Breezy/Bryce above tried to get him to personal army someone who was documenting him, Eternal Maxwell

I'm not touching that shit. I was curious, cause ProximityChat's vids are funny. Wish that was it - just some weird retards in the wild, with no pedos and all the other horrors. A man can dream I guess.

Hold up, Prodisty is here???
Haha, former boyfriend and die-hard defender of Glass. (a former VRC troll youtuber ousted as a pedophile), Prodisty / "Daniel Foodist Man" has been name dropped in an hour long video discussing "pedo rings" in VRChat, at around the 41 minute mark, as he is now under the username "CosmicHead"
