Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

Monolith formed a new studio specifically for Zelda development during ToTK.
I did not know this. Interesting. I hope they allow other studios to do more spin-offs with Nintendo overseeing. KT does decent enough with HW, I trust Monolith with whatever they're cooking up. Even a noname indie dev made a solid reskin for Necrodancer/Cadence.

Basically, what I am saying, is make the call Nintendo.

You sort of have to assume the Zelda team is working on something. Tears got no DLC, so they've probably been dicking around with Switch 2 hardware for awhile, besides doing what was needed for the S2 versions of Breath/Tears. My hope is there's the next big game in development, along with a smaller project by Grezzo. I believe Monolith also had a hiring thing out awhile ago for staff on a "Zelda game" Whether or not that means their own take on the franchise or that they're assisting with the next mainline game again is anyone's guess.

There's been a rumor going around for a while that they've been working on a complete OOT remake with an expanded overworld. I have no idea if it's true, but it's been persistent across different platforms since the Switch 2 came out.

I swear there's always a rumor that an Ocarina of Time remake is secretly being made.

I've seen it on Reddit, X and I think this thread at one point?

Something about connecting the dots between the 40th anniversary, a lego set, some promotional art and some other shit.

It's probably bullshit.

Personally, I think if you want to remake something for the Anniversary, a Zelda 1 remake where it's updated to be a bit less cryptic and the overworld were updated to compensate the decrease in difficulty would be really interesting. That'd probably be a good Grezzo project.

All I'm saying is I swear every year for the last decade there's been whispers of an Ocarina of Time remake.

Problem with Nintendo is their remakes are generally just graphic upgrades. They'll add stuff but will rarely mess with what's already there save for a shinier look. Like Ocarina of Time's 3DS release was 99% the same game discounting the new look and control scheme. If they went and turned the game on its head, and I know they won't, I'd actually have some interest.

I just want it to be a return to semi-linear form. I've got 3D open world fatigue, boss.

As long as I get a randomizer and the same glitches

I'm actually open to the idea of an OoT remake because it's one of my favorite games, period.

That being said, if they're going to do one, I want to see a full remake, from the ground up, that brings something new to the table. I'm not against remakes in general, but I feel that every remake needs to justify its existence, and the same game with better graphics wouldn't cut it.

For reference, I consider OoT 3D to be less of a remake and more of a port.

Now that I think of it, a reimagining of OoT in the engine of and with the right elements from BOTW could be the perfect Zelda game.

I thought that before, but part of what makes OoT's semi-open world work are hard requirements for certain items to reach the entrances where you need to be. Most of the dungeons are locked behind some item you need to find, and climbing trivializes that. OoT's world feels like it expands at the rate your inventory does, and gets you thinking "I should try X on Y". The Switch games don't really quite have the same thing going on if you ask me.

We're gonna get Ocarina of Time: Remake and you'll like it!
  1. Bloated-yet-empty massive open world* (only Kokiri Forest, the Lost Woods, Hyrule Field, Lon Lon Ranch, Kakariko, Death Mountain, and Zora River/Domain
  2. It's only the child half of the game
  3. Zelda tags along as your support, "focus, L."
  4. Final boss is Ganondorf at the gates of Hyrule Castle, he turns into Ganon anyway because fuck you
  5. Poe jannies ensuring the flow of time remains in tact

6. They have voice actors but they're all terrible. Again.
7. Treehouse did the localization badly. Again.

For any of you OoT fags, if you ever want to try learning some glitched randomizer hit me up and I can teach the ancient ways (it's fun).

e. if you do, my recommendation is to emulate VC via Dolphin
Since we're talking oot my offer is still open if anybody wants to learn some cool shit.

I'm never going to do it but I'd love to see a post in the thread about it since game theory is just inherently interesting to hear about.
Well really I just wanted to teach some cool glitches so kiwis could try their hands at some fun stuff lol I can speak more on it outside work sometime.

Really what I'd be rapping about is tech to use in randomizers, since I find speedrunning to be kinda boring personally (not that it's not hard or not full of cool shit, just not my thing).

I'd still be interested even though I will 99% probably never use the information. I'm one of those weirdos that just finds strategy, game theory, and breaking down programming interesting for its own sake. And I think it would be neat to share it with everybody, honestly.
