Rape is jail is pretty uncommon, but prison rape really isn't all that rare. I knew a dude that got raped so hard and so often he couldn't control his pooping for years afterwards. He finally got awarded some money by the state because of some PREA violations and got his butthole sewn back together.

If anything, the EXISTENCE of PREA should convince you that it's a serious problem. Personally I just view it as another reason to avoid incarceration.
