Nine people were shot -- one fatally -- late Saturday night at a private residence near Cincinnati, police told reporters at the scene.Three of those shot were children. The fatality is an adult female.

Police were called at 11:20 p.m. about reports of a shooting at a house in Colerain Township, said Colerain Township Police Officer James Love.

Family members tell ABC affiliate WCPO that a "gender reveal" party was taking place at the residence at the time of the shooting.

Love told reporters there was one or two shooters.

"You’re hoping that there won’t be situations like this," Love said. "These are the nights that you look back on and you regret that they ever happened. This will be one of those nights."

There is no name nor description of the suspect, Love said, adding that a motive is unknown.

Update: The woman hosting the party wasn't even pregnant: http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/local/colerain/2017/07/17/mother/483867001/

how have you people never heard of gender reveal parties before?

do you have like, no friends at all who are married and having children? or shit even know them from work or whatever? or even relatives inviting you?

man you niggas must be lonely

If my friends were the kind of people who'd try to make a pathetic self-indulgent event out of telling people whether their kid has a dick or not instead of just saying "Yeah it's gonna be a girl", they wouldn't stay my friends for long.

I'm glad these people got shot, tbh, and I hope the 8 injured also end up dying.

I know of people who do gender reveal parties, but they're usually the type of self-absorbed yuppies who I wouldn't be friends with. Most people I know just say it. A woman where I work just sent an email saying she just found out she's having a girl to her immediate work team, but it's not like you have to respond to that with anything more than "congrats" and certainly not with gifts or hours of your time.

Why are you people acting like its such an annoyance?

Your friends invite you over, you buy a little gift for their child, you participate in their happy moment then you eat and drink mimosas or whatever and chat with friends then you fuck off back home in an uber because youve been slamming those drinks

How is that in any way a bad thing?

Meh, combining speed and acid I've had worse.

I only started hearing about them in the past six years or so, but they are all the rage here in Australia. They're definitely something cooked up by Big Baby to make more money off people though, and while I am using the term Big Baby because it's funny I am being serious about the origin. They're sort of like sweet sixteens or ridiculously expensive rehearsal weddings, a local custom somewhere that has been latched onto by marketers and shilled as a status signifier.

I never heard of having a party for it, but look what I saw at a fireworks stand the weekend before the 4th:

Reveal party fireworks! Very festive.
