I work a labour job during the day, I'm a volunteer first responder who had 2 calls today which were life threatening, and Im on a board of directors for a historical society that raises money for veterans.

I use my actions to show my moral worth, you do nothing but use grandiose words that result in nothing.

He's probably one of the few people I wouldn't want volunteering, I would be worry he would take advantage of the disadvantaged.

BUT man it was tempting and he almost (inadvertently) baited me into it. I kind of feel that when a 26-year-old NEET is claiming to be morally superior and have more to contribute to society than anyone, some actual personal examples to refute that seem justified.

"eventually decided I didn't really care about the world beyond the small circle of family and friends I find worth caring about. There was a time it seemed overwhelming to me as well, but eventually I grew to not giving a shit about the bigger picture. I often take a look at this world and find it hard to find anything worth liking, to be frank."

You seemed to have misunderstood what I said, I mean 100% of the time their parents asked them to do something they disobey. Like even if their parents tell them to do the smallest thing they refuse. I'm not saying that children are automations.

Here is the verse I am referring to:

Deuteronomy 21:18-21


18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:

19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.

21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

Obeying your parents is a major thing in Biblical Judaism.

Because it's oh so ethical to ask me a question via PM and then post my answer publicly; something that I will note that I haven't done with your PMs to me even though I'm sure people reading this thread would have more interest in them. There is an implicit assumption of privacy, confidentiality and trust in PMs, which I like to respect, but I didn't trust you to treat them the same way so I didn't write anything I'd find embarrassing for you to leak regardless.

Anyways Andrew, the point that I was making in response to your question about plans to make the world a better place was that I feel a bit world-weary because, unlike you, I actually went out and fought and sacrificed to try to make the world a better place. I found it to actually be pretty damn thankless and often frustratingly futile. Something you wouldn't know about because you have no experience with such things. Whatever, I tried, and I did make some small differences in some other people's lives without expecting or getting anything in return.
 
Everything taught or believed by someone which is illogical is not true and should not be believed. It doesn't matter if people say something is a sin if the idea its a sin is illogical. The idea that it is immoral if you do not obey your parents 100% of the time is completely illogical and therefore is not true. And no bible or religion has any authority otherwise on the subject.

You gave up and you are a quitter in that goal to help the world. I'll never give up and never quit. I didn't think what you shared was all that personal with me so i didn't feel like i violated your privacy by sharing it. if you had been very hurt or offended, then I would be sorry i hurt your feelings.

Just to clarify, he's the one who initiated the conversation, as well as asked me the direct question that he posted my response to.

I'm not outraged or embarrassed, because I answered him truthfully and it's an answer I hold to, but I do find it funny and ironic that he was trying to prove his own moral superiority over me by breaching implicit trust and privacy that I respected and will continue to respect.
