The Hays Code and the CCA, for all their onerousness, were at least only rules on what could and couldn't be done. A better gotcha question is to ask them what they thought of the Hollywood blacklist. I want to know why it's not cool to destroy the career of some commie like Dalton Trumbo but it is cool to use heckler's vetoes against Ben Shapiro or Ann Coulter or whoever the right wing monster du jour is.
The MPAA is another example. It is a censorship board but they don't technically ban movies. However, they can damage the release of a movie by requesting cuts for an R rating and they've shown bias against independent films.
