Strong enough, sure, but in the case of unpredicted failure I'd rather have the 1903 with the massive improvements they made.They're all strong enough. You can get Mausers in .505 gibbs and .404 jeffery which replicate the nitro express double rifles in performance. The P14 has been re-chambered to .458 win mag so it's no slouch either.
Mausers also face eventual receiver stretch with serious use, as many classical gunsmiths will attest to, which is unfortunate.
.450 Bushmaster is unpleasant in light rifles, cheap scopes and mounts beware.My dad has one in .450 bushmaster.
it broke the first scope put on it. He shot it a few times and then handed it to me and the glass cracked on my second shot lololololol. I don't think he's shot it since.
The Ruger American had(has?) a lot of lemons, with how affordable they are there's also tons of posts about failures and accuracy issues. They can be good if you do in fact get a good one.It honestly sounds like you got a lemon.
