Yup, there's a difference.
I recently started volunteering for a local candidate. He's anti-ICE, anti-AIPAC and is the only person fighting against a recent land grab that would absolutely wreck our community.
Among the volunteers are people from the community, mom & pop owners, students, laborers. But the core staff he/she hired seemed to me like those lefty kids you see that come from middle-income homes and major in something like labor relations or something and wear flannel shirts, septum piercings, tattoos and interesting t-shirts. The type of person you might see in Williamsberg.
The actual working people from the community are cool as f*ck and honestly inspiring. Not a single one of them passes me by without a smile, always dapping me up, asking about my family. Meanwhile, the actual organizers seem....weird.
It's like human interaction isn't natural to them. They have weird lingo they use with each other and this subtle air of superiority. When they speak it almost feels like there's a double meaning anything they say. The thing is, working class, common folk socialize very easily and wear their heart on their sleeve. They're actually incredibly warm and have a habit of doing nice things for each other without wanting anything in return.
But the staffers, who are central to organizing this stuff, they have that fake niceness I would notice in corporate types my whole life.
I've never seen two groups of people who are more aligned goal-wise, but so misaligned in mannerism. Donald Trump, who's a piece of shit, would get along better with us than these staffer types. I can't imagine sitting down and getting cool with these people, the fakeness would make me wanna blow my brains out.
