question:

does anyone have recommendation for cheap and good sketchbooks/paper? the smoother the paper the better. I usually use a strathmore 400 sketchbook, but the paper is a little too toothy for my taste. I've gone through a few but now i'm about to reach the end of my current one and am open to something else. i just don't like how it feels and makes the graphite look, but they're still the best bang for your buck sketchbooks in my local art store. I have a lot of bristol paper, which is really nice and smooth, but I'd rather keep that for more "finished" stuff than sketches and studies. or am I just blaming the paper when it's actually my own fault or something like that. idk. open to suggestions, thanks

I have procreate and I know deep down the solution is to just bite the bullet and go fully digital, but there's just something about graphite and ink that feels so nice to use.

Personally one of the smoothest paper i've worked with is Canson. I took this sketchbook (more like a stack of papers glued by their top) that is 30 pages and compared to other sketchbooks i have the paper grain is barely noticeable. On top of that, it's quite resistant to abrasion meaning that you can erase a good bunch ot times before fraying the paper. I don't remember the price since i bought it a long time ago or even if it will be available for you. I took the "Manga artist" type if that helps

fantasy oc i did yesterday, i still have 5 more to go

Id also second canson, they are probably one smoothest paper I've used, I also use printer paper alot too, pretty smooth also and way cheaper then sketch book, although im not doing anything near has good or polished has most people on here, mostly just sketches so it works great for me, so might work good for you if your just doing practicing and studies.

OOOOOOOO-WEEEEEeee! It's been a while since I've last booted up this Kiwi Farms account. Anyways, I woke up with this funny idea: what if Chris Chan was a school shooter? Meet my new school shooter OC, Chris Harper-Mercer-Chan. Of course, I had to color it in with crayola washable markers too. Also, happy birthday, Hitler!

I never really gave too much of a thought about paper in my sketchbook and after looking it up only characteristic i could find was the thickness of the paper being 80 gramms/meter^2
i did however tried to draw on the paper that is for construction blueprints since i had a lot of it and it was definitely smoother but i didn't liked it. pencil was too eager to get blured and i neded to do second layer of ink after i would erase the sketch lines.

Two oil painting studies & a Bob Ross study from Art Class. Sorry my image quality is shit, I found my current phone in a trashcan.

I've been very disinterested in my art as of late. Outside of assignments, I don't really draw or try to learn anything new. Over the years, all the joy of art making has just been sucked out of me. I feel like I'm regressing skillwise, like I can no longer retain vital information regarding anatomy, color theory, or even lineweight. My interest in painting is dead, my digital art is shit, & I hate opening up my sketchbook now. It doesn't help that all I see online is either ai slop or gooner slop or professional work or topical fanart. I post, get two comments (one guaranteed from a bot) & maybe 10 likes. I know the number doesn't matter & I never cared before, but damn. I just gotta keep going, I know. Just ranting, I guess.
