Just finished the histories of Flavius Josephus last week. As much as I want to belt out something antisemitic, I know what you're getting at. The later years of Herod the Great were a nightmare and Jewish society had degraded in so many ways under him and Roman procurators. You had an assassins guild stabbing people at the festivals, riots because of Roman soldiers mooning jews on holy days, and constant fracturing and successor crises and wars. The Messiah was one of many innocents to be killed needlessly in the period and it's surprising that anyone bothered to care when He was taken from us, considering just how bad things were.
So catch the rainbow corrected me on the religious law and religious court part. But if you really look at it and I mean remove the religiosity of Jesus for like this entire conversation. The whole time period was a mess. If you were an average Jew during this period, Jesus was just another in a period of many. Like what you said it's shocking Christianity even took off. What I don't understand is that my points aren't exactly " unique" many of the Catholic priests that I've spoken to in my life know far more about the history at the time. And do agree with me, but it's funny that when you bring anything like that up here. You just get belted with anti-semitic low IQ comments.
Also If you look at it from the Roman point of view, Jesus was probably the easiest person to catch, so nailing him to a board and making him an example sorta makes sense. Jesus wasn't exactly hiding himself.
Back to the early Christianity and that period of Roman time, early Christianity was one of many apocalyptic "cults" which existed at that time. I mean the entire theology of Jesus, whether you believe it, he said it or you believe that Paul invented it and spread it, is that Jesus (when directed at the Jews directly) checks all the boxes for the Messiah and for the bringing of the Messianic age. I mean, isn't the whole thesis of his teachings effectively that the old way of doing the religion is impossible and that is why we are in this societal collapse (talking about Jewish society under roman), so we need to jettison those things and focus on the basics (throw in the whole I spoke to God/son of God). One could see themselves if they were a Jew during this time period being enticed by these teachings. Remember the Dead Sea scrolls come from a judaic offshoot that failed to catch on.
I got to say actual theology is fascinating, Christian theology, Jewish theology and Islamic theology. The history and the belief systems are fascinating, but I still don't understand where most of these people who scream at me get their religious teachings. Is it all through /pol/? Because even at its core it's antithetical to things they claim that they believe.
But this is more for a conversation for a different thread.
Jesus' own hometown wanted to push him off a cliff for his messiah preachings and got him close to the ledge but never went through with it.
Little did we know but jesus was the biggest lolcow in his neighborhood. The CWC of his time.
this is a joke for you esl fucks
