Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

I really like the idea that it basically indirectly confirms FF14 is in the same universe as Ivalice. Shame about the drama behind the scenes. What was going on in particular? I thought it was pretty cool the whole way though.
The big issue is that Matsuno (FFT director) wants a massive amount of autonomy. I hesitate to say he’s an auteur type, but definitely in the same ballpark.

He pulled out of the stuff with Bozja due to “health issues.” (Although he rather quickly hopped onto a non-SE project IIRC.)

My gut feeling is that since a lot of his work was directly tied to the Garlean Empire stuff and Endwalker did a massive narrative pivot away from the Empire, I’m guessing Matsuno wasn’t happy with having his creative work get shelved for Cosmic Twitter nonsense, given he was upset regarding the shoehorning in of bonus characters/jobs in the War of the Lions re-release of Tactics.

That said, Matsuno was also pretty clear XIV Ivalice is not FFT Ivalice. There’s parallels but it isn’t tied to the og world.
Wasn't it confirmed FFXIV is doing its own thing? There are visible differences between its version of Ivalice and the OG.
No, it was pretty clear it isn’t, Again, Matsuno is a bit autistic about Ivalice. The XIV storyline was meant as a “retelling” with more of a dramatic vibe to it (hence the XIV Ramza being in a theatre troupe.)

People like Lanselot and his army of sycophants do more harm than good when it comes to criticizing the game. They poison and butcher actual discussion so badly that people who would normally agree with them start disagreeing out of spite because of how annoying he and his buddies are. Even most Dawntrail haters can’t stand him and 4chan widely mocks him. Not to mention most of the people he makes fun of just laugh him off and fail to fall for his rage bait. Nowadays when you have someone giving actual nuanced criticisms people automatically assume they’re one of his friends and refuse to listen to them or take them seriously.
I know that a lot of his ramblings relate to specific incidents that are in some cases years back, but the fact that he doesn't include screencaps or links and just bursts into more xqc tier gibberish makes deciphering what he's even saying difficult enough, not to mention trying to repackage it in a way that is compelling and coherent. You can't even ask them to spoonfeed you, because they're huddled together in a private discord and nobody else can enter due to trannies running gay ops.
Is there a way to find stuff like the drama and the lulzy lore condensed together? About stuff like
>kate antagonizing or condescending to critics
>tranny menace spamming false reports to get everyone who criticises the game banned and the game's staff just going along with it instead of banning the false reporters
>all the smarmy self-congratulatory DT stuff like turall's name, the game jacking itself off to tacos endlessly in an expansion that's supposed to be about hyping up mesoamerica etc

And other signs of corporate rot.
>it's all spread around somewhere in this thread
The thread is a thousand pages long. If there is really juicy stuff, it should be moved into the OP.

Tbh, I'm not too thrilled that the alliance raid for 8.0 is just more crossover fodder. I know they are doing everything they can to retain people, but I appreciate original stories more than just endless licensed crossover stuff or having crossovers from other FF games. Having it as like an event is fine, but having it take up an entire content slot is...meh. I dunno. I'm also in the camp of the few people you can count on a single hand who doesn't pog at the sight of Evangelion.

Counting the days until FF14 just becomes the fortnite of MMOs.
I love Evangelion (the OG series anyway) and even I think this was a bizarre decision for a game that's already struggling to maintain a coherent art direction and worldbuilding. I doubt it was Yoshida's decision though. Considering Anno is on record saying he wants to turn Eva into the next Gundam, it's likely that Khara approached SE rather than the other way around.

Two whored-out, washed up franchises collabing together is actually kind of poetic.

Edit: @electrician's apprentice Which is funny because we literally have plugsuits in the game already.

The confusion thing about the Eva raid is what the fuck are we going to be doing in the raid, like are going to fight an angel? Does everyone get a mech?

The problem from what I remember isn't that Matsuno got specifically overridden, but that Bozja got massively cut down due to COVID which meant that a lot of it had to be scrapped. You can tell there was going to be a third zone after Zadnor that just got cut. Its general themes also overlapped with the trial series of Shadowbringers which definitely didn't help when it came time to decide where dev resources needed to be pulled from.

It's going to be the Weapons trial series but Eva-flavored and in 24-man format.

The hill I will die on is that Alphinaud is the perfect example of character development over the expansions, and a role model for the care they should have shown all our main cast members.

He is presented at the beginning with a set of flaws, is given growth towards surpassing them, and then comes full circle in the events of Endwalker into being a fully developed person.

The problem is that we're past Endwalker now; His (and Alisaie's) story is effectively over. They should have been allowed to depart the main narrative on the high note of their arc.

Dragging them along now is just going to ruin the characters and take up screen time that could be given to others that need it more.
Frankly somebody needs to get wacked at some point, and they need to make up their minds on if they are going to always be with the Wol or not, but I have no problem with them right now.
If they're serious about the new story saga, I think they should kill off Alphinaud and push the Scions into background characters again. the only expac where they worked as characters was Shadowbringers since they were basically resettled in the First as natives, and it was paying off a lot of accrued development up to that point.

Maybe give Alphinaud a love interest before he pulls a Loisoix so he doesn't die being remembered as twink bait for depraved fujoshis.

Ah, that makes sense, too.

And yeah, having dev resources go into EW would be the obvious choice, but it'd also piss off Matsuno. Real fucking shame because I'd argue his stuff is the best writing in XIV by far.

if they want to ride the wave then something based on UC to tie to hathaway. Alternatively G Gundam where devil gundam can be the final raid boss. Or if they want play it safe, SD world with the 3 kingdoms.
I think the issue with Gundam is.. the WoL is stronger than Gundam in UC (sans shit like Unicorn) but Gundam's are also massive, so he'd have to get in G-Warrior again or something and that doesn't really make sense for a raid series.

the power disparity but also size disparity fucks things up, and there's no way anyone would believe Char could tussle with Eorzea heros in a fist fight, dude could barely roll around with Amuro.

lmao there was a question about male and female aura at the Q&A panel that basically boiled down to, "why can't we have big, masculine lizard women"

Instead of a normal non-committal corpo answer, Yoshi-P basically went into a tangent about sexual dimorphism and the trannies got audibly upset about it.

I'm thinking we're back (and trannies will never be women).

I'm debating resubbing, I was in the middle of Endwalker when I got too busy with other shit to keep playing, and Dawntrail didn't give me a reason to come back.

I will say that if you don't pay attention too much to the story in Dawntrail, the actual normal difficulty battle content is surprisingly solid. Maybe cutscene skip and then watch a recap on youtube or something to get up to speed for the patch storylines.

It’s funny because Aura sexual dimorphism has been blatantly mentioned in their character creation description since HW. It also plays a role in the story because people mistake them for being related to dragons and the lore description of the race in the character creation screen disproves it by saying they have sexual dimorphism but dragons don’t.

Also there are rumors Koji is back with the localization but dunno how true that is or if he’s just supervising as usual.

Haven't actually been paying much attention to Fanfest announcements, what's the TLDR on the evolved combat stuff/job stuff in general exactly?

The TL;DR is basically just returning to how it was pre-stormblood where most jobs had a main combo and a side combo that would maintain a buff or something like that except with one button combo being added to the combos (PvP combos), as well as one-button skill changing to various skills based on your target (Such as Dragoons positionals automatically changing to the correct one based on where you are standing relative to the target, Healer DoT or Regen changing based on friend/foe etc), which is what these autocombo plugins did anyway.

And all jobs getting continuation for OGC's. I say all, but Paladin was only one so far blatantly shown with it, so it's just a safe assumption.
