Even when it is mostly ice free, it's a massive pain in the ass. You keep running into odd shallows as the area isn't really mapped. You can't count on the ice coverage either. It is a shorter route to transit goods from China to Europe. However, it is too unreliable to ever really be useful as it currently stands. Even then, the US controls the western entrance and through Greenland bases the eastern one as well.
