Enjoying my new job, as it's relatively easy except for one thing, that I have absolutely learned to hate companies for. They use EXCEL for god damn everything.
I get it, it's cheap and promises to do everything you need, which isn't a lie. But the hidden truth is EXCEL is fucking god awful. You have to build specific tables with the perfect setup to get the info you want, or memorize massive key combos to make the tables do what you want them to. And with a single update or change, it can wreck the entire damn process. Plus it over complicates the easiest of things.
Example: Part of my job is putting into a file how many label changes I did over the night. Can I just alter the number and leave it at that? Hell no, I have to put =34+9 (as an example) or it breaks the whole damn thing. Why? Why is this a thing? If I go to fast and say instead =34=9 the entire thing seems to go full tard and break.
I started out on ancient green screen line commands and inputs, and frankly that shit was 100% a cakewalk compared to this trash. Especially since there are good, cheap, and reliable newer softwares that do exactly want you want without requiring new people to memorize ctrl+shift+13 button lines to get the info you fucking want. But fuck no, EXCEL is the best!
I am ranting now as I got my ass kicked all week at work trying to learn a hundred functions and key combos, all while going "Ya know paper and pencil would be more efficient than this shit...."
