Considering how weird and far apart the game is from it's "inspirations", and the various contradictions from the team about the games development, I assume its 2 games that were merged.

I'm not sure where it got lost in the process but doing any kind of MMO PVP vs someone who has played more than you and has better gear than you is the most likely #1 avoided situation in MMOs.

That list just sounds like he wanted to make Blizzard's Project Titan and ran into the same dev issues as Blizzard's Project Titan and then shit out a game out of the bones much like Blizzard's Overwatch.

That's cool. I would've liked Marathon to be more like it's original concept as a single player FPS. But the Indians the entire games industry has been outsourced to have no capability to make those.

He 100% understands that even Destiny players hate Marathon since it killed the Destiny and Marathon got better treatment with dedicated servers and supposedly better anti-cheat system (related to dedicated servers, but of course now we know that AC is shit). Unfortunately this is a reality of game journalism where you have to suck dick otherwise you would be cancelled. While I basically followed that same track myself, from Halo as a kid to Destiny as an adult, there was a brief period in the middle where I got into Marathon thanks to its XBLA port. I didn't play through the whole trilogy at the time, but I delved into Hamish's site for a while and was fascinated by what Bungie made before they made Halo; I had the Security helmet equipped permanently once I unlocked it in Halo 3, and my Reach nameplate was the Durandal one unlocked through playing the XBLA port. I set it aside for a while, looking back into it occasionally, then Mandalore's videos on the trilogy got me to actually play through the series, replaying them again when they came to Steam.

I'm no OG Marathon fan (I have never owned a Mac), but my appreciation for the series has spanned nearly as long as my love of Halo and Destiny. So to see its corpse resurrected for a flavor-of-the-month live service game in a genre I have no desire to play...yeah, it's a little upsetting.

And of course, on top of that, as @Vhailor said, they also ended up doing major damage to Destiny in the process. It may not be dead yet, but we've gone months without new content, the player numbers are at the lowest they've ever been (far below the CoO "we're at risk of shutting down here" level), and they still refuse to say anything about what may or may not be coming next. This week's blog post was by far the saddest one I've ever seen, where the actual content was nothing more than "earn an emblem by getting kills with these guns as a community!" Literally that was it. So not only did they make a new game which doesn't appeal to me in the slightest, they also ruined my primary game in the process. Thanks, Bungo.

It’s so fucking sad. Not to be gay as shit (or power level), as it’s literally coonsoomer level shit here, but D1 and especially D2 surround some of my best memories on this earth. My ex-fiancé and I played it ALOT, did a lot of raiding, my brother and I played the fuck out of D1 when it was out and beat Vault the first weekend it opened up. There’s a lot of people with similar stories, similar memories, similar feelings to mine.

Bungie doesn’t give a fuck.

They don’t care that this series means a lot to a lot of people because it’s what they grew up on or made friends through. They only give a fuck about bungie. Something they used to be against (other than Jones, fuck that nigger). It shows with Marathon, as you said, that series used to be insanely ahead of its time in terms of story telling and lore and its gameplay was as good if not better than even DOOM. And they pissed its legacy away for niggerslop of the month. Fucking angering. Fuck’em, I hope the rumored May 15th shutdown is real.
