I'm a complete layman and I would love to have a Christian explain the sin of gossip to me in this context, so I can understand the situation better, but I thought gossip was a sin in the same way that false witness is a sin. As in, me saying that Melonie Mac has 10 ebony gentlemen over every weekend and her house reeks of weed, because the ebony gentlemen are smoking weed in her house as they rail her on her marital bed -- would be a sin because I'm just making up idle gossip. However, saying that Melonie Mac is enabling a terminal alcoholic's delusional fantasies because he pays her money (like a whore) is not gossip, because it's the truth.
The Bible does make a distinction between gossip (talebearing, whispering) and bearing false witness (slander).
Even if something is true, the Bible basically says not to be a snitch: "A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter", "But let none of you suffer as a [...] busybody in other men's matters."
Of course, Mrs. Righteous is misapplying this precept by missing two key points:
1. Gossip is done behind someone's back, without their knowledge
2. It's something the victim doesn't want to be revealed
Which is a problem because:
1. Hambly is being confronted directly and publicly
2. There are literally hours of video evidence of him broadcasting his estranged relationship with his wife, his lust, his various addictions and his implied cuckoldry
Melonless Mac is doing the same thing that some Christians try when their favorite pastor is disqualified because of a moral failure: "B-but, 'love covers a multitude of sins!' Mind your own business, nothing to see here!" It's too late when it's out in the open.
If Melonie wasn't a complete grifter she would be calling Hamplanet to repentance ("Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear"), not enabling his unrepentant sin by sweeping for him.
