🌟 Internet Famous Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

5000$ of printers and future 20k CNC in uninsulated barn, which has condensation / surface rust on every older wood working tool stored. Bold strategy cotton. :story:

3 similar prusa machines don't really make sense in a workshop. They are mostly designed for PLA toys or prototype parts while there are better printers for "engineering" filaments like nylon and pc (-cf) for car parts etc. he said was the intention to make.
Honestly, jake probably should have torn that barn down and started from scratch. cheaper and probably more effective for keeping shit from rusting and from the elements.

If Canada is anything like America, I suspect there are huge parts of building code you can circumvent by modifying an existing structure (bonus points for it being old) and overall less permits to pull versus building from scratch.

Normally wouldn't matter either way for a barn, but if he's filming this for YouTube, Linus and Linus diehards who will go out of their way to fuck with him so he probably does have to do this above board and to-code. I do agree with you that I don't think he understands how open/exposed a barn is in the first place, it's not going to make a suitable shop for modern tools, ESPECIALLY in his climate.

I'd say I'm less negative about Jake's home renovation channel than others here, I don't think it makes the most compelling YouTube content, but I'm pretty happy for the guy getting to spend the next year or so with his father/family/wife building up his house. Yes, some of his money burning on hobbies/toys feels almost midlife crisis sorta shit, but it's not excessive to the point where I'll call him a retard yet.

Europoor here but it can save in taxes/insurance up to -80%. Uninsulated is pretty easy to convert in material costs. It will take a lot of time but it's /diy/ efficient option for cheap.

Jake should still just buy a new shop building since it's 2 years faster and fit better for his use.

"yeah my boss didnt pay me my worth he bought his 3rd house but i will never own one." proceeds to buy a fucking farm and have 5 1000$+ 3D printers and planning a 30k$ CNC while also doing structural renovation.
I don't get this point. So Jake quit LTT. And after working for himself for just 6 months, he was able to afford a fucking farm and 3D printers and a 30k CNC machine... How exactly does this reflect badly on him?

Where did he get the farm, 3d printers, and cnc machine?

He said 2500 dollars WITH rebate and it tought it wasn't to bad with tools and he said No.. thats the price WITHOUT tools and the upper chest was gonna run me another 1700 dollars. If you want tools with it its double the price.
5k for a quality toolbox isn't bad.. for a professional garage. But as a hobbyist it's waaay cheaper to just buy stuff as you go, you don't need half the shit in the pro toolboxes. And then there's stuff you want and doesn't actually come in them, like the >5k toolbox we have at work that has like 6 different sizes of deep sockets instead of a full set.

I've mostly bought tools as I've had a need for them and are probably still under 1k spent, if excluding battery tools and I can't think of a job I couldn't do on my car with them.

Jake is trying to speedrun what he hated so much about his previous boss, he bought a house/farm and wants to fag it up just like Lienus would. Luke shows up at the end as they chop wood with a too small axe:

They're going to ruin that beautiful old barn, he's going to exploit the hell out of his family providing some labor to renovate the house, and the whole thing just comes across as being just as oblivious to why people get annoyed with Lienus' recent actions. With Zip Tie, Alex and Andy were smart enough to just rent a building, and I wouldn't be against them buying it either. But trying to have your gay canadian cake and MAID it too by buying a house/barn/pool combo is the type of thing where I hope all the jeets he votes for come and burn his new oak door.
Just watched this. In the midst of screaming internally as I watch a young lad bite off way more than he can chew, I noticed something around 6:23

Asbestos. And there's probably more of it elsewhere. Another thing to add to the pile of crippling debt.

Edit: for clarity, since most hwhite people nowadays are fortunate enough to have never (knowingly) seen asbestos sheet lining, I mean this:

As evident from the way it's crumbling near the door frame and property age, that's definitely not a wood plank.

He is crashing out on reddit now walking back his apology on Billet Labs situation calling their product ewaste

Too bad Linus did not sell the company. Otherwise some could be there to hit him in the face with a baseball bat every single time he does something like this. Maybe with enough pain he would learn something about public communication...

I am fatigued from the whole genre of "I did my best" type maker slop videos that pop up like Dankpods, UWOs Lab, Linus' ridiculous projects and now this guy.
If you want peak "I did my best" check out Morley Kert. Almost every video is a faliure on some level. I recommend this video where he installs venting throughout his tiny apartment into his closet office.

Wasn't the milling machine already there and had one of the jog wheels broken off on it? 3d printers other than Formlabs and other higher end models aren't exactly expensive these days and Prusa and Bambu will hand out printers for free to basically anyone with 100k subscribers and 50k views a video so he's got that easily beat too.

The rest? Loans. Grants for being Canadian media. Probably a few other sources of funding available as well.

Linus is such a narcissistic piece of shit framing his complete ineptitude as something morally justified. It doesn't matter if you were raising money for a children's hospital, you did so with goods that you effectively stole from a budding new company. A one-of-one prototype device consisting of solid copper that had an untold of amount of manufacturing sampling done to it, a device that was given to you short-term to review and provide feedback.

He effectively destroyed it, given that they never got it back, and only offered to pay the cost of goods - not the entire manufacturing and opportunity costs that went into this one-of-one prototype that had to be re-engineered. How arrogant and self-righteous of him to say he's not at fault here. Linus should have bent over backwards to make it right but instead he fucked over a two person independent manufacturing company and didn't even feel bad about it.

Excited to watch the continual downfall of your company @LinusTech

Also, it seems the drama from three years ago with GN and Billet Labs still haunts him, he even goes as far as calling the BL prototype e-waste. What a Kino.

You don't get to retroactively justify your theft and sale of a product just because it failed later. What a piece of shit. @LinusTech please keep being retarded, it's awesome
There's a good argument it failed because of his theft. They'd sent him a prototype.

edit: And I see I was beaten to that punch. Oh well.

For a sane person anything regarding how his company fucked up with Billet Labs shouldn't even be worth responding to at this point as anything said is only going to refresh the drama for people since it's been years at this point. But of course Linus had to go out of his way and come up with one of the worst possible responses.

Even if we ignore his childish e-waste commentary, just the complaining alone about a small business having failed as if that suddenly retroactively makes the business irrelevant 3 years back, is fucking insane. Small businesses fail all the time, especially within super niche areas like this. But as it's already been pointed out an argument can easily be made for Linus contributing to that failure in how the video was done and then how the prototype was handled.

What a faggot.

So he accidently used his socket puppet account on reddit and got caught by the reddit snark or whatever subreddit

These screenshots are missing a crucial response from Lienus. The comment from Lienus' alt account says "I stated I think it's a platform issue". For the sake of full clarity I have screenshot and archived what I think is the most damning comment from his main account where he talks about how he thinks Twitter handles information better (platform issue)
