Assuming that the citys appeal had a chance and failing that, they had a good case at trial then settling makes no sense other than giving a token amount so they don't have to endure the trial costs.
If paying him off was cheaper than kicking his ass in court then they would pay him off.
No idea if Strang would have changed their tune after the last update and advised their clients (niki/lynn) that they should take the token offer as Strang are not wiling to bear the cost of trial.

A settlement need not mean a payout. And I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this happened on Monday when on Friday they made it public record that the city would be able to introduce Pat’s insane social media activity as evidence and they explicitly mentioned his crimes (their word) being fair game.

Wouldn’t be surprised if a token amount was offered — and the contingency attorneys will get most of it. But I could also see Pat not allowing his ego to suffer the experience of being BTFO in court with another public exposition on abandoning Annabelle and threatening to kill her and her mother.

The city was facing an uphill battle and should have been fucked by a jury. This was really atrocious behavior by a handful of asshole cops and the city didn't stop them (should have fired a bunch of these fucks).

They got more than a token offer, I bet.

Yes, there are times you can bail on a client (not as easy as you think) but here it doesnt matter since they'd likely win.

It was looking as though his social media history and past crimes were going to - quite rightly - be admissible at trial, so he shit and hit the ejector button, all while tweeting tough. Lawyers get paid and he can claim a win because the facts are sealed. That’s enough in his mind.
 
I'm genuinely glad. This will only embolden Patrick to new heights of awfulness, entertainment, and fatness. We may even see more lawsuits from him in the future. We shall certainly see him blow the check on something extravagant rather than anything useful.

This is what happened, 100% - Friday - "social media can be deposed" - Monday "Ricky sues for a settlement of One Dollar" and is accepted.
 
I think it's clear now that the city bringing his twitter into the court was a desperate and hollow bluff. The city of Milwaukee didn't realize what a real life tough guy they were dealing with, a real spoon feed you your own teeth kind of guy.
