Trainwreck Nailah "Mama Nails" Winkfield / Latasha Spears-Winkfield - Jahi McMath's mother, kept dead child in apartment to play dress-up, put on makeup and paint nails

Related to the education topic, but while I know you're joking this is actually a significant issue in the black community. In college, a fellow classmate I tutored talked about how in a lot of these ghetto-ass families (he himself came from one, one of those "first in his family to go to college" situations) consider mental illness a "white people" problem and refuse to acknowledge it exists, or try to push the Jesus treatment on them instead. In his case, he had clinical depression (tied to a degenerative vision ailment that was impacting his daily functioning) and his own mother refused to support him to the point of turning into a screeching harpy/physically violent bitch, doubly so when he expressed wishes to go to school and get a higher education (because even though this might make their living situation improve, it's still seen as wanting to be "white" or "you think you're better than us" mentality).

It doesn't surprise me that Jahi's family would fall into this same kind of mindset...but it's still very frustrating and depressing.

Yeah... BS like this is why niggas are still looked upon unfavorably in general (after all, racism still exists, albeit in more subtle, yet complex way.)... And Mama Nails and her corpse - keeping family of cowards are only apart of the problem here. Then again, look how they conditioned themselves to live and how to think - that's the real issue, hence the continued breeding of it with no sign of stopping.

Also... I know I'm late with this, but special thanks to whomever doxxed this cunt.

I know this is off topic, but I have to ask, what do you think is gained from prosecuting people for tragic but honest mistakes?
Well, criminal negligence is a thing that is illegal. Also, if the6 have other kids, and the parents are incredibly stupid, then convicting them would be a surefire way to place the kids in protective custody.

I hope I'm not late with this, but they're suing the surgeon. Apparently there's a cap on clinical negligence damages in California of quarter of a million, so by keeping Jahi "alive" they can get round that and try to extort them for more cashola.

This is part of the reason why American healthcare costs are so fucked.

Well according the state of California...the place that issued her a Death Certificate, she's kinda ummm dead!

Let them bring a lawsuit, that means ALL of the records would have to be made public and Jahi will have to be examined by a real doctor and not some pro-life nutjob put forth by the Schiavo Foundation.

Yep.

Wait what? Did New Jersey wise up and realize they were being scammed?

Why the hell do you think they're so eager to get the death certificate over turned?

This is sorta OT, but I guess is as good a place as any to ask.

What's with certain elements of the African American (not always, but deffo over-represented) community and these strange names? Are they actual names, or just made up? This nutbag with all her "J-" names reminds me of the similar fad for a string of names with "D'" - D'Shawn, D'Vonda etc etc. that seemed to be everywhere a few years back. I'm trying not to be rude in case there is some cultural or historical reason behind it. Here, unusual names are usually just made up (especially with the whack spellings, like "Jordyn") but it's so prevalent in some sectors of the US population I wondered if they perhaps come from traditional African roots? Not that Mama Nails would know ANY history, but words and behaviours can hang on long after their source has been lost.

Wonder if there's a D'Gertrude or JaMildred out there? ;-) (Best ones I've ever seen are Teea-Wana and, of all things, Latrina! Presumably her siblings were Toiletta and Lavatoria?)

If there is a thread for which this is more appropriate, my apologies.

The name thing got popular during the Black Power movement in the 60's and 70's. It's intended to be empowerful Afrocentrism--some of them are bastardized African names. Basically, it was trend that stuck.

I feel bad for Latrina, though. That is sad.

(Also, weirdly, Mormons do the same thing with the made up names. I've met white LaTawandas and such, who came from LDS families.)

There, see? The farms is educatifying me!

We're much more conservative with names generally, but the.....how do I put this?....trend amongst those who want to give their kids an "unusual" name (meaning half the class ends up being called Kaydon) is following the common US practice where traditional surnames are used as christian names, so Taylor, Hunter, Fisher etc. That's been widespread across the US for generations, its completely normalised, so I wonder if we'll start seeing a rash of Talaquondas - give us a couple of hundred years and we catch up eventually!

Is Jahi her full name or is that a shortened version? Looking at Mama Nails' delightful tattoo (I assume it's of Jahi?) I can't make out the words - it looks like a name, but it's longer than four letters.

Yeah, poor Latrina. But I caught it on a clip somewhere and she was bawling about the candidates for her baby-daddy bingo at fifteen, so maybe she'll never find out. Toiletta may have a harder time ;-)

A caveat: this is mostly spec, as I do not have any letters behind my name. But, I think I may know why Jahi looks 'wrong' even though her tissues are still oxygenated and thus, not decaying.

It goes back to the hypotonia that's been brought up in-thread already. She's just slack, to a degree living people usually aren't. Even lying down, the muscles of a normal person are to some degree 'doing something', whereas Jahi is as floppy as a baby with hypotonia. Google it, if you don't mind seeing drooping infants. Unlike a child or adult with hypotonia, she can't consciously try to make her muscles tighten, so she looks unnatural. She probably looks more normal in the instances a spinal reflex causes her to move simply because it brings tone back to her - I'm guessing she doesn't have those often or we'd have a lot more vid of her moving.

The thing I've seen in person that reminds me the most of Jahi in terms of body condition is a fresh severed limb. Their flesh just pools where gravity dictates it ought to. So does hers.
Which, given that severed limbs and Jahi are both dead, is not a big surprise.

Her name is Jahi Kelis McMath, according to her DC.
The words under Nails' tattoo are "Talitha Cuna", which was explained means "little girl arise" in Latin. That what I was told.

Talitha kum is biblical, from the story where Jesus resurrects the dead daughter of the head priest(Mark 5:41 specifically). More layers of Biblical delusion for Mama Nails.
