The realities of being trans

I think the majority of people self-identifying as trans on the internet are just mentally disturbed freaks who should be in an institution, and should be publicly shamed and ostracized.

Or they're attention whores that want views and sympathy that legit transpeople get. Or they do this as a form of solidarity/rebellion to the "patriarchy".

Does anyone have any opinions on whether or not pronoun respect should be given on an individual basis?

For example, you could have an absolutely deplorable lolcow who advertises themselves as transgender and a really chill person who also advertises themselves as transgender. Do we give them both the respect they want, or just respect the second person just because they aren't a giant douchebag?

I've seen the argument levied against me that if I misgender one person claiming to be trans, that it sets out a negative perception about being trans in general, and that's that trans people would start to believe that the respect they seek from others is something they'd have to earn, rather than something that should just be granted to them. Of course, that argument comes off as pretentiously entitled, but I also don't want to deny someone's identity if they really deserve it and genuinely require it.

I dunno. I'm conflicted. lol.

I mean for example potato
phill and cwc, there is no effort to seek the needed medical help to start with the most important = confirmation of diagnosis and start for the process, but ridiculous half-assed performance. Chris would go for the minimal effort of trying to dress like woman (if it wasnt too tiny clothes that look like they are meant for 12 yrs old = something isn't right and it seems like sign that gender issues are tiniest of his current mental issues).
I think it's because they're not trans, but are merely trying to exploit the social role meant for women and young girls.

For the most part, I use the pronouns people want, since really, it doesn't really hurt me, and I don't see any reason not to. That and I'm not mocking them for being trans, but because they're a lolcow who happens to be trans. I'll also use the name someone wants to be called, (not "dead naming"), because well, you can change your name legally anyways, so what's the big deal there?

Now, there are some exceptions -- I refuse to do the whole, "zir, zer" or whatever that is. It sounds so fucking pretentious. And for people like Chris, who really just seems to be playing dress-up, or Milo, who doesn't seem to know WHAT the hell she wants, I'm really not going to bother. But that's the minority.

But for someone like Riley Dennis, who's just a stupid bitch? Yeah, I'll say "she". I'll also call her a moronic twat.

I guess it's just me, then.

Then again, I think it's easy to judge who's playing dressup and using the identity of being trans as a shield (like Jerry Peet), and someone who legitimately wants to transition, like I GUESS Riley Dennis?

That and I'm used to using specific pronouns for specific people, and, unless I like them or think that they really deserve it, I'll just avoid the hassle of trying to accustom myself to their new identity.

I realize that this might make me sound like a fundie Christian Right-winger, but it's my stance. Certain people deserve certain things, and I don't consider that transphobic.

Let me toss in my two tranny cents here.

Typically, you can tell the serious ones from the fakers just by looking at the effort they put in to pass as their intended gender. Even if they're pre-hormones, they'll still do everything they can to look as not-trans as possible. If they do bother to correct you for misgendering (many times that won't even happen out of fear and anxiety), they'll probably be really meek about it, or just brush it off like it's a common mistake. These are the kinds of people whose preferred pronouns and names should be honored.

People who go out of their way to look like a messy gender confusion, make a scene when someone doesn't use the right pronouns, and just generally try to stand out rather than blend in as a normal member of society? You're free to humor them to their faces if you're so inclined, but aside from that, call them whatever you think fits. Or whatever will piss them off the most.

I'm open to being wrong here, but from what I've seen of societies with "third genders" they tend to be the way that society conceptualizes gay men. All the ones I'm aware of basically have the rules of 1. It's not ok to be gay, 2. you're only gay if you catch 3. if the catcher is a member of the third gender then he's totally not a dude so rules 1 and 2 don't apply.

The only time I've seen most trans people get upset about being misgendered, or someone using the wrong pronouns, is when someone's doing it deliberately as an insult, or just to troll. Not someone who does so out of ignorance, or just makes a mistake.

It's not trolling to call a spade a spade. It is harmful to encourage this delusion, that you can transition to another gender or that you can "feel like a woman".
It's really counterproductive to make a distinction between trutrans and attentionwhores, both are what I consider the victims of our times, just like lobotomy patients in 5os. Trutrans need better help, not for someone to drill a hole in them/cut a part of their arm and call it a dick and for the rest of the society to encourage and applaud it.
