McDonalds - I'm Lovin' It

About 45 minutes away, there's a McDickholes that still acts like a 50's diner. Up to and including half of a Chevy Bel Air in hot pink standing proudly in the backdrop. I almost never go there now given that's a ways up, but when I lived there it was a common stop.
Shit I remember those Americana-themed McDonald's. All of them had music boxes that were basically CD players that stole your quarters, creepy mannequins in greaser attire, and TVs everywhere from the eating booths to above urinals in the men's bathroom. Most have been rebuilt in the "Forever Young" Starbucks-like style, although I've seen some racecar-themed ones here and there, with a gutted NASCAR taking up a chunk of the store.

There's actually one just a couple blocks from my house with a sign like that. It doesn't mention wi-fi, it just asks people not to sit there for longer than a half hour. It's not in a bad part of town--in fact it's the city's main thoroughfare, where all the supermarkets and banks are. The main reason they have that sign up is this McDonald's is a favorite hangout for local NEETs who gather there to play Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh all night.

They actually have one in my grandmother's neighborhood that has bingo on certain mornings for the elderly lol. It's in a very nice, very old part of town where the average resident is in their 60s or higher. It's cool to go there because its so nice and clean for a McDonalds. The service is beyond excellent and the employees are very friendly since they have to deal with crotchety old people all the time, so they're very patient and accommodating.

There's actually an Americana-themed McDonald's in my town. They haven't renovated it yet because of the town's older population and because things are more traditional here.

I think they get more hate than they really deserve. I'm trying to lay off fast food in general but if I do decide to get any, I just get a burger by itself with a cup of water.

Lots more people staying for extra refills now that the soda tax has made it the cheapest place to get caffeinated

cheeseburger with big mac sauce, nuggets w/ bbq, or sausage mcmuffin w/ egg

the big breakfast is also damn good if I'm feeling like a glutton.

When I go to McDonald's, it's usually to buy cheap crap. Like the 99 cent cheeseburgers or a $2 small frappe. When they were doing the 2 for $5 deal I'd take advantage of that because it was such a good deal and get some chicken nuggets and a Quarter Pounder and save one of them for later. However, even though I sort of doubt I'd ever order it again because of the price, I was dismayed to see that McDonald's had replaced the Maple Bacon Dijon option with a Sriracha one. I have expressed elsewhere on this site, a while back, how overrated I think sriracha is, so it's annoying they replaced my "favorite" new menu item with it. (I use the term favorite loosely. That's the only Signature Crafted Recipe I've tried, and I only got one at all because they were offering free fries and a drink with an order of a sandwich around the time they were released. But it tasted pretty good.)

McDonald's can just be pretty frustrating though. As much as any fast food place. The other week I just wanted a small frozen coffee beverage without having to pay Starbucks Frappuccino prices. I was in an area with 3-4 different McDonald's locations in a small geographic area, and none of them had working frappe machines. It just seemed like bullshit to me. Oh well. Wendy's is usually way better, and you can currently get a small Frosty for only 50 cents there for the summer.

Lately I find myself ordering from the "Value Menu" items as well than to pay twice that for a combo. I suppose it's been hitting me hard lately given the way inflation works (I miss when those prices were half as much 20 years ago).

Thank goodness for Wendy's in that respect. I used to had one closer to my house until a new one was built a mile further south so now I would have to go there, but I do miss having it just down the street (half a mile about). Reminded they once had a salad bar for years, wished that wasn't taken out.

I've always found that the ice cream McDonald's uses in the UK is that really nice soft-serve stuff, but the downside is that it melts so fast! Makes getting the stuff home a real rush, and you'd better hope you have some room in the freezer to put your McFlurries in to try and give them a shot at cooling off and freezing properly.

Soft-serve is always meant to be eaten right away. You can't really save it.

I do miss though when the US McDonald's had that health kick and offered low-fat frozen yogurt instead of regular ice cream.

EDIT: Here you go!

I love me some 20 Mcnuggets and a large fries about 3 times a year.

I know it is pure crap, and also that I will feel like shit the next day, but wolfing down that greasy crap sure is good for 20 minutes.
Sometimes it's best when you think about it every single day!

I will say I also miss the time the local McD's in my area tried this...

They are trying this again. Reviewbrah did a review.

Though from what I understand, only one or two McD's does this at all, and they end to be franchisees that are doing this on their own rather than on the corporate end.

Exactly three and they're mostly rather large ones. The one Reviewbrah was at was.

You should check the WHSmith to see if they are offering McDonalds vouchers. A Quarter Pounder and fries for two quid is a pretty good deal.
